Thanks Wesley - I did put aside a number of 5c error coins - mostly off center, one example (think it was a 2000, they are already in the safe) had no rim at all on one side. I don't really know anything about 5c - are there any particular errors I should keep an eye out for? I am aware of the "sharp claw" / "blunt claw" but haven't really been able to see the difference... have checked all 6 of the '72s I found and none of them were the large / close to the rim at the bottom type.

every 10c date was circulated

Sorry, but that's not correct. 86, 87, 95 and 96 were all Mint Set Only years for 10c.

85 (2m), 91 (4.3m) and 97 (5.7) 10c all had low mintages when compared to other years.

$2 for 1991 were also MSO.

Nancy thanks for correcting me,you are correct
Steve the 5c off centre stikes are great, hang onto them great error coins, the 1972 5c is difficult to find circulated now but they are still cheap to buy unc from sellers in Australia

Happy's post would suggest that it is very possible to find 72's in circulation. Apart from a couple of Gems, all of mine were found in circulation.

Hi All, I picked up 2 brilliant uncirculated 1972 sets in the souvenir type cases, from the USA,the sellers pictures were'nt great but I took a punt on the coins being uncirculated.
I was very very happy when they arrived in super duper condition & I paid $30 & $36 for them.
Here is a pic of the reverse side of one set.

Yes circulated coins are not worth collecting 1972 5c 8,250,000, maybe 1985 10 and 20 cents.
