How do you know he wasn't kidding? About the barber. I thought it was funny.
Buffaloboy: In my opinion, having opinions is a fruitful thing, especially when you test them by telling them to others. At the risk of sounding patronizing, at your age, developing the habit of having opinions is far more important than most of the actual opinions one has, no matter what anybody says. Your opinions will change as you get older. Nobody escapes that.
But I'm guessing you're smarter than you let on. I expect you're aware, at some level, of the irony of calling what you wrote a "rant." It's an old trick. Preface your opinions by calling them irrational: it automatically apologizes for what follows (rants are, by definition, irrational), and so blunts criticism. Plus, if you let go of that term ("rant") and the idea behind it, your opinions have to be more careful, like your grammar, because opinions always attract criticism, which is an excellent state of things, if you ask me.
I agree with Dan about the grammar. It doesn't have to be the Queen's English; you just have to learn how not to distract readers with lazy spelling and sloppy word-chains that only pretend to be sentences. Reading your posts sometimes feels like walking through a minefield. Of course, message boards aren't supposed to be bastions of English rhetoric. But you have to be clear. Even when you're being complicated.

I was aiming for that kind negative feed back to tell you the truth so I really look like I'm ranting. To tell you the truth I'm very good at grammer. I'm one of the best writers in class(when I take my time like right now). So to speak I was doing that on purpose so please remeber Old Dan I know why Barber coin are called Barber coins. I'm just trying to make the forum a funner place I hope I didn't really make you think I'm that dense. Because I'm not. Thank you

Always a very good policy! quote: Originally posted by Buffaloboy5 I'm very good at grammer. I'm one of the best writers in class(when I take my time like right now). I know why Barber coin are called Barber coins.
Thank you for the exlanation, and I never for one minute thought you were that stupid. Sometime it pays to slack off and not try so hard to call attention to oneself. If you know what I mean! Slow it down and learn from any of these people who are here to help and make your collecting practices a little more refined.

I love reading all of your posts... Buffaloboy, I wish that I had your energy and enthusiasm. I'm very surprised; however, that the new coinage doesn't get you going. When I was your age, we had no changes in the change and it wasn't near as refreshing as with these recent changes. I agree with you though, that the mint makes changes "erratically'. I can't understand the new nickels either. Why do we need Monticello again...And, why is Jefferson looking at us like that? I'm glad you guys brought up the subject of English. I thought that I was the only one that still cared about that. I'm always blown away by the horrible English (not foreignors but English speakers) used on ebay and steer clear away from "Freaky English"

Study hard it will get you far...

You know though ( I can testify to the fact that bad grammer and speach does not always imply ignorance, lack of intelligence, etc

Buffaloboy Here's a tidbit of info for you !! coin collectors find it funner to talk about coins ,share information about coins, see what others have added to there collections, expand their knowledge based on others knowledge. forum integrity is built in a persons posts, being consistent , and most importantly of all not playing games with other members for your own pleasure. The interrnet and forums are a great resource but they lack certian humanising qualities, such as facial expressions, and body language ,voice inflection which can often times be used to determine the quality of a persons words, quality being, seriousness, joking, confused, or any of a myriad of other emotional states ,, just food for thought !!
