Is it me or is it not odd that no one removed the coins, what ever they were, from the roll to see just what was in there?At least at the time of the transaction, I know they were removed later and dead presidents were found in their place.

no guy's, went back to get to the bottom of the story and it was two rolls for Eisenhower's Dollar. I now have personaly seen the empty roll with an identical roll still in the till for that register. Someone was in a hurry! And with good reason! One end of the roll was torn off then covered with several strips of scotch tape. The light is good in the cash room and my vision is 20/15, and there was no mistake in the color through the tape. Standing in the door opening, it's approx. 12 feet away.
My brother is a detective and knows the Geraral Manager, so if the person that has the first part of the treasure does'nt put two and two together, We will at least have an ending, or better yet pictures, or even better . . . I won't get my hopes up too high but what a nice dream to have come so close to. If I had only entered my phone number into the cashier lady's cell phone instead of writing it on a register receipt two months ago we would have a different ending to the story. Behold the power of hindsight!

 First it was a $25.00 roll of coins....now it's 2 rolls of Ikes? (Which are $20.00 rolls). If you are implying that the rolls contained Double Eagles...I find it hard to believe that somebody kept $40,000.00+ in gold laying around in paper wrappers. Maybe the coins took on a nice golden tone due to the wrappers! I guess we'll just have to wait and see if you can provide anymore info. |

Also double eagles are smaller in diameter than Ike dollars so the rolls would feel very oddand the coins would rattle around in the roll. (Unless you cut the wrapper down the side and then wrapped it down tight and used tape to hold it together.) Even then it would be twenty coins, not twenty-five. |

Joe, I really want to believe you on things like this, and I don't want to sound rude, but your posting history suggests you are coming across these sorts of "amazing finds" all the time (such as your Sac. dollar that has 3 different errors on it). With so many of them turning out to be nothing, it becomes hard to get excited when you have the next great thing come along.
In this case you originally said he paid with a roll and that roll had been moved into the cash office. When you got there it had been opened, but for some reason the paper roll itself was still laying there, and $30 was left in its place. Now you are saying there were two rolls, one of which was still in the register, and you saw that second roll from a distance and could tell it was gold. If they still have that second roll, why didn't you buy it?
I'd love to be proven wrong here and find out this really happened the way you think it did, but you have to understand why this story generates a lot of skepticism here. That isn't to say you are making things up, just that your perception of what happened and what actually happened may be two different things.

Sorry I wasn't there when it happened. All I can tell you is my soarce is without a doubt, She is always reliable. Her words were " I've never seen anything like that before! Not in my twenty years working here have I seen such a thing. Maybe he's color blind or something?".

how did it go from a $20.00 gold piece to Eisenhower dollars? seems the cashier would know what the coin was worth, and you said at first he bought 25.00 worth of groceries and paid with a $20.00 Gold coin and he had a full roll of them. Did the cashier take the Eisenhower dollar as it being worth $20.00 if so they wouldn't be telling you the story because they would not stay in business long that way. What we don't understand is you said the cashier told you he paid with coins that had a $20.00 face value but now it turns out to be $1.00 coins |

another thing that strikes me as weird is the clerk told you specifically that the coins were from 18? and well that would shut out any Ikes as well

Well, the bottom of the story has come! The manager on duty is who my "CSI' tactics finaly came to. And I was correct first off with my 'clerks' words!
I didn't get some details but listen to this....He only would/could show me one that he says "I'll Keep this on in my pocket from now on!" , and that one was 1870 something(?). He wouldn't let out of his hand and his thumb covered the last number.too frasked to ask I guess. But asked to see the back side and it was 'CC'! I don't even know what that coins called yet but it said 'TWENTY D'. Extra fine I guess.
It was two rolls, to make up what I guess $30,000 in Gold, cause thats where he said he they went. "How much?", and all he could say was "Aww, I did alright.".
I don't miss much, but that's a hard hit to all kinds of desires! My coin searching clerk did think of me right off, but one case of coulda-shoulda-woulda! ! ! ! ! !
I'll go one further and find him on next shift and inquire about a photo for us all. I can tell you that I don't really know what to feel right now. What a great loss. I bet there was a millon there. I know what I'm going to do next in light of it all though,

Well, I've been watching this thread & I have to say that the first word of the title pretty much sums it up.
If any of it's true you should probably spend the $4.95 online to get the unpublished number of the guy that spent the coins. You have the guy's name, it's Xmas & I'm sure the guy could use the money just as much as the store manager. If the local media got involved the store would have to give the coins back.
