I too started collecting long before the State Quarters. They have never really done anything for me.

I started collecting before the State Quarters came out. The one thing I didn't like is that it caused the price of the proof and mint sets I was ordering directly from the mint to go up.

No, been collecting since the 1960's. It did give me hope that interest would carry over to the entire Washington series. Sigh.

For me, no, I've been collecting for more than 50 years. Long before that program began. I love the fact that it has helped to spark interest in the hobby. We need younger blood in the hobby....

I started collecting in the mid 90's as a child and the State Quarter series never did much to grab my attention. Was collecting Classic U.S. series back then and still am today.

State Quarter didn't bring me into the hobby but I think reignited my interest when they came out. I started collecting as a kid back in the 80's when my grandpa gave my his Lincoln Whitman folder and let me look through a huge tin of penny's. I kept all the wheat cents I found and still have them all today. I have collected on and off through out the years, but just now starting to buy some higher end coins (higher end to me anyways). Now I'm on the hunt for the W mint mark quarters!!

State Quarters were the first thing I ever collected in coins. They started me in this road, and I'm glad they did. I have the whole collection of State Quarters, one coin for each state with mixed mint marks, but I'm happy to have it because it sparked my interest.

I'm in the group that started collecting in the late 60's and the only reason I collect the State Quarters is because they are included in the uncirculated and proof sets. I have dansco albums that include proof issues for the other denominations so it was either spend the quarters or buy the albums. I made the logical choice as a collector and popped them into albums....

It drove me from the hobby as a teenager a year or two after the program started. Only when I discovered silver coinage about 5 years ago did I regain my interest. I would also say that the ATB series helped to rekindle my interest as well.

I was semi interested in coin collecting after my Maternal Grandfather died and left my sister and I a few coins, Wheaties, Indian Head cents and a few Buffalo nickels. My interest waned after I married and had family responsibilities. In 1996 I married my second wife and she was already collecting Morgans, American Silver Eagles and Buffalo nickels. I got into collecting Frankies and Peace dollars. Now, 23 years later we collect almost everything. More modern day coins (post 1964) than pre-1964.

The states quarters brought in not only millions of young people but lots and lots of baby boomers who had set aside their collections in their teens.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.
