I guess its according to what denomination you are minting. If you are minting one ounce coins then allot, if you are minting half ounce coins then twice as much as the one ounce coins, if you are minting quarter ounce coins the 4 times as many as you could if they were one ounce

I too think it's a fake. Nice advertising gimmick though. Probably a hunk of Lead sprayed with a spray can from Walmart.

I think it's a fake for several reasons. One is what is the purpose of having a block of something that is needed for so much stuff?
Why bother placing it on display in the first place? Is there a block similar in Platinum? Silver?
Does make for a nice photo though.

The largest gold coin weighs 100 kg (220 lb 7 oz), measures 50 cm (19.6 in) in diameter, 3 cm (1.1 in) in thickness and is made from bullion with a purity of 99.999 per cent. The legal-tender coin was introduced on 3 May 2007 by the Royal Canadian Mint with a face value of CAN$1 million (US$900,375; £451,585).

Needed for so much what stuff? Gold has relatively few real uses other than for jewelry or decoration.
