exactly, but not all the NIFC's. Regular mint sets and proof sets were made. The silver ones were only done in special 3 piece sets.

tissue test works great. Place a thin tissue over a known silver coin and another over a known clad coin and note the difference in appearance. The silver will look white while the clad will look dull grey. No need to weigh or see the edge, great for a coin in a holder or 2x2.

Someone spent one of these this morning at my local Starbucks.
Yes, a Bicentennial "S" 40% 'Uncirculated-strike' Ike!

The manager knows I collect coins, so she showed it to me.
She said "I got a real Silver Dollar today, you wanna see?"
(even she knew that the edge looked 'silver' and the coin 'pinged')

She was disappointed when I said that it was 40% Silver, because
she didn't know that there had ever been 40% Silver coins.

I told her not to be disappointed, because she still got over $5
worth of Silver (at present melt value), for $1!

jprine: Nice coin. Most of my silver IKE's have quite a few bag marks. Not sure I would have broke it out of the holder. :-)

I think it would be hard enough to even find a source for rolls of Ikes, much less find silver in them. Finding a silver Ike would probably be about as rare as finding a proof, someone would have had to remove it from collector packaging since the 40% issues never circulated.

Not very good. All silver Ikes are NIFC. They are out there, but not many. Also, I don't see too many rolls. Usually if they aren't loose, they are in envelopes. I made two rolls out of half dollar wrappers turned inside out and taped. The bank I turned them into, took them out and counted them. She said it was because they never see rolls and don't know what size the roll is supposed to be. Even after she counted the first roll, she did the same to the second, then put them in an envelope.
