Without trying to take sides in this semi off topic discussion about ski masks, I have to agree with scubu on this one. I wore a ski mask every time I was hunting in the winter. It was the perfect head dressing when you're sitting in the woods with a slight breeze. They are not produced to stop frost bite while skiing. They are made to keep your face warm when it's cold! There are specially made masks for skiing that are better for preventing frostbite than a cotton ski mask. The point about a turtle neck is a good one. what's the difference between a turtle neck pulled up with a hat on? The comment about Arab women may be stretching an already valid point, so let's not go there.
This was a nice debate, and keep in mind this is a family friendly forum.
As for the original post, it stinks, but most coin shops are pretty much banks without security systems. You're a fool if you don't have a serious security system protecting it.

Cities are cold places too. I noticed my eyelashes stick together as I blink when the temp drops to around -30 celsius (Luckily, we've had a mild winter). Add wind and snow to those temps, and you'll wish you had a pumpkin on your head.

Quote: so when a non christian is ready to take your life I guess you will be one of the people who just sit there and cry hoping GOD strikes them dead before they can kill you then right? That way no one will lose their life at anothers hand. I was brought up a christian also and I do believe it is wrong to kill someone just like the other 9 commandments and neither one is more important than the other but if someone was trying to take my life he better hope he finishes it before I can take theirs
Indeed I don't want to take anybody's life. The purpose of carrying a concealed weapon is DEFENSE, not offense. I would only use it if it came down to the perp dies or I die.....I'd much rather he dies. LOL

The coin store near to my house was robbed yesterday. Over 6,500 dollars worth of gold was taken from the store. I can't feel sorry for him because he was no different than the people that robbed him. He "stole" many a good coin from unknowing people including myself when I was just starting about 4 years ago.
I'm a litle on the suspicious side. Just what kind of coin store is it that has that sitting on the counter? No good security system? Around me there are numerous coin stores and NONE have even one coin on the counter. I sometimes wonder how much was really stolen if there was a robbery at all. Could well be for insurance purposes. As to not feeling sorry for that person. Regardless of what he has or hasn't done to others, he still may have a family to support and if he would have been killed during the robbery, what about them? With purchases from him, he wasn't robbing people of their coins, he was just making buisness deals and he won. In buisness it could go either way but in a robbery, things could have been a lot worse. As to sky masks, nice thing about living around Chicago. Those aren't needed by criminals. Seldom anyone caught, those that are just go free the next day, sky masks make it difficult for fame as a criminal, our criminals would probably put them on backwords anyway.

Because bear paws bring a high price in China. Quote: What purpose do they serve on city streets other than to obfuscate your face so someone can not recognize you? Well when it's 10 below and there is a 20 to 30 mile per hour wind I find they came in fairly handy. (Not an altogether unlikely occurance here in the midwest.)

Ok, point taken about ski masks. Generally I just don't wear anything on my face (except sunglasses) when hunting, hiking, or in sub zero temps. Granted I'm not in them often but it has never really bothered me.
Then instead of outlawing them outright, how about making it so that you can not wear anything that obfuscates your face when walking into a business that deals in alcohol, tobacco, firearms, precious metals, gem stones, or financial institutions. (Most banks around here already have that rule.) If you refuse to remove the mask you have to leave. Not leaving a business when requested is already trespassing. Then if they do rob the place anyway... when they get caught there could be an additional penalty for obfuscating their face AND trespassing. Would that be better?
It covers liquor stores, gun shops, coin shops, jewelery stores, banks, credit unions, pawn shops, tobacconists, et cetera.

The right of a free American to defend home, property, and family with means that " I " deem necessary against ALL threats whether foreign or domestic.
This is "my" literal amendment to our Constitution, or "my" "modern interpretation", and one that my family and extended family have lived by and will continue to live by for generations past and future. Times change and people change with the times.
If someone is going to give me a clinical definition verbatim on what the 2nd Amendment means "literally" to them or what it meant when we were fighting the British two and a half Centuries ago........and say that I only have a right to "keep arms" in case I need to overthrow my Government, and that certain firearms are okay only as long as you're a hunter or they don't feel that "regular citizens" should have the right to own any firearms at all........well.....that, I say, is hogwash. And there will always be a fierce determination in opposition to any and all Liberal contrarians who would wish it to be so and attempt actions in that direction. And that's all I have to say about that !

From the america.gov web site: "This document, more than 200 years old, is the framework by which America is governed today. The words are rarely modified, but their applicability changes throughout history." So "rarely modified" but not written in stone. I have very little sympathy for the victims of gun crimes when the people of a country encourage the proliferation of deadly weapons and a situation (created by yourselves) where you feel you must arm yourselves.
I think I know the reaction of most Americans (and most right-minded people) to some of the punishments meted out, to what we would consider innocuous 'crimes', in Sharia Law (as practiced by some Muslim states). It may be their constitution but does that make it right? I would ask the same of the second amendment.
And yes I have heard the arguments about "if someone threatened your family/kids" etc. but I was brought up in England at a time when gun crimes were exceptional and I still choose my personal non-violent stance. At the risk of upsetting more American members here I'm also against capital punishment. So hang me.
I'm not trying to be confrontational but I'm just putting forward my standpoint. Thank goodness for freedom of speech (one of the 'good' amendments).

Quote: The 2nd amendment was written to make sure that if our government no longer had the will of the people in mind and caused death and suffering (the way the British did back when we declared our independence.). Then the people could rise up to defend themselves against their own government. This is exactly what it means. Translated into a more modern vernacular: "While it is necessary for the State to have a police force to keep the peace, citizens can still defend themselves." It is important to remember two things: 1. The Bill of Rights does not grant us our rights; it is a guarantee that the government will not take them away. (The classical liberal concept of natural rights.) 2. The Constitution is not a living document, it does not change or evolve over time. If that were the case, then the clearly documented amendment process would not need to exist. This is a good thread, but it will be to be moved to General Discussion if it is going to continue on this course.

Quote: The Constitution is not a living document, it does not change or evolve over time. If that were the case, then the clearly documented amendment process would not need to exist. I understand that.....and I know I cannot mess with it's "literal" interpretation "verbatim" as I said. But I was speaking to the emotion of what would happen were our "modern interpretation" of our rights to be expelled. Me and Joe, John, and Tim could NEVER overthrow the most powerful country in the history of the world ! So......I take it to mean, in a "modern" interpretive way, as do millions of other Americans, that I can "bear arms" to protect me and mine "from" any threat to my person or property. Otherwise, "literally", we, the public, or the "private sector", should be given Navy Destroyers, Apache attack helicopters, M1A1 Abrahms tanks, Stealth bombers, Stealth fighters, F-16 Eagle fighters, military satellites, Patriot Missile batteries, Inter-Continental-Ballistic Missiles Nuclear Warheads, etc. etc. etc.........to "get the job done" were it deemed needed and necessary to be done "against" our government! If "the Government" ordered military action against "U.S. militia's" out to "change the Government".......then "literally"......we should be given the training and all the equipment to combat that.....right ? I think not !...... .....so that's sort of what "I" meant about "changing with the times", versus 250 years ago, and what "most people" generally accept with it's interpretation nowadays......so.....yes....I understand that, word for word, it "is" quite literal in it's meaning, and should be protected as such........ Oh.......and to keep the thread here........ "COINS ARE MARVELOUS !"Just kiddin'.... ...

Well we covered the Constitution, sky masks, guns and almost anything imaginable except as usual, the original post. Anyone remember what it was?
