Dimes are GOOD, I guess it depends on who has rolled them and put back into circulation. I recently purchased 50.00 from the bank that the grade school down the road had turned in from the soda machine's and found (SILVER) a couple D/D and some interesting errors, when I get time I'll post pic's.

Holycrap - eaglefoot, this thread reminded me that I didn't send your $$ for those two rolls. I'm sorry for the oversight!!
Gent - I've considered searching dimes, but tried 5 rolls as a test and quickly realized I wasn't ready to do that to myself again.

Gent, best on your quest. Dimes are just too small for my eye sight.
Eaglefoot, FWIW, On the park qtr's - check with the smaller banks in your area. I have found one near me that PROBABLY will be getting the qtr's as they come out. I cleaned out the last of their 09 territory qtr's (they had 8 rolls).
For some reason some banks are NOT eligible per one of the tellers going forward.
Peace

I searched one box of dimes a few months back and found one silver roosie, but they're just too much of a pain to do more. I sorta proved to myself that you could find silver and that was enough!

Dimes are ok if you get a brinks box (clear plastic wrap). You can tell in about 15 seconds if you have any silver!

Ceylon62.... It is my understanding that banks were "issued" the 50 State qtrs & Territories, but that they will not be "issued" the State Parks qtrs.

That is my understanding too. Therefore I'll buy from the mint and pay the surcharge.

I've been searching more boxes of dimes recently. I have searched 1/3 of a box that I picked up today from my local TCF bank. In one roll I found 2 silver dimes, 59 & 63-D. Whether or not I find anymore silver in the rest of the box is anyone's guess. In the past I have found about 3 or 4 other dimes in boxes and loose rolls, including a 1907 Barber. In my previous box of dimes I found a 2009-P, thus giving me more motive to search dimes. I also found a few early clads in higher grades to upgrade my collection with.
I certainly do agree with others that searching dimes and quarters aren't nearly as rewarding as pennies and nickels. Since wheat pennies and pre-1960 Jeffersons are guaranteed finds in boxes of pennies and nickels respectively, searching them feels like strip mining. Dimes and quarters, on the other hand, feel like fishing. It just takes a lot more patience. Boxes of halves feel like they're somewhere between the two.

OK, I finished looking through the 2500 dimes and looked at each and every coin on both sides to see if I could if nothing else, find a cool error. I found no silvers, no 2009 and no foreign coins.
I found one interesting coin that has a large lump of metal just under the bust about 1/4" x 1/8" shaped like a calzone. My wife referred to it as a goiter. As soon as I can get my scanner working I will post it to find out what the heck caused something like that. It was a very disappointing search. I doubt that I will put myself through the dime search again. I am impressed by those that have had success and wish I had just a little myself.
Oh well, back to pennies and nickels for now.

same thing here in Canada, I find dimes the least rewarding. The dates are so small too. Quarters are above dimes because you can find colored olympics. I like my pennies and nickels for the same reasons you do, older jeffersons and wheats.

I think I'd find almost all the modern coins boring if I weren't collecting them. Just going through looking for silver and the like would bore me. There's lots of great stuff in the dimes and they stand out here more than the other denominations just because there is such a sameness to most of the dimes. You can find most of the older dates in XF still and some in AU. There aren't as many varieties but they're easier to search since few dates are affected. My favorites are the '69-D/ D and the '68 DDO.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

I gotta say I love dimes. This year so far, I have searched 83,500 or approximately 33 boxes worth. Small time. My results are, 52 roosies 4 mercurys 10 pre '68 silver Canadians
I can do 4 boxes in an hour. Last year I found six Barbers, clad proof, 15 mercs and 14 silver Canadians. I search dimes because I'm tired of the endless string of skunky boxes of halves. Dimes are fun, and I've received 1 skunk box out of all so far. I will say that the clear Brinks wrapped are a major bummer when I do get the rare box. 56 dimes don't sound like much but they are 90% silver and I found them at face. Just my 10 cents.
When I listen to LED ZEPPELIN...so do my neighbors... Roll hunting since '77 Dirt fishing since '72
