Hello, Johnny, care to take a stab at the grade? (I know you're an SLQ aficionado)

Quote: Hello, Johnny, care to take a stab at the grade? (I know you're an SLQ aficionado) LOL. well, the problem is that the TPGs are terribly inconsistent in how they grade these. I may be completely off, but I think it would make the cut for VF-20. It is much nicer than the one I posted for sure, though I did purchase mine at melt.

PCGS gave it VF-25, so I'd say you're on the money, grading from pics! Paid a bit over melt for mine, LOL.

Early in my collecting days, I was cannon fodder for the sellers with multipage ads in Coin World. This was one of my purchases, a "BU" 1886 nickel. It had a sort of hazy luster that I couldn't quite figure out. Last year, as I began to realize that I was 'had' on a number of purchases, I soaked it in acetone, which removed the hazy "luster" (I believe it was smoked) and what I had was a cleaned, uncirculated details coin. Not too bad looking.Probably worth about the "bargain" price I paid for it.

Thanks all. It's taken quite awhile to find the coins I currently have. I used to have tens of thousands of coins but I decided rather than having that many I have traded and sold them to condense my collection to just about 100 or so premium quality coins. When I started my first 7070 I was shooting for VF or better, then I started upgrading and it donned on me to just save and buy the coin I really wanted rather than to fill a hole, so that's what I have done over the last few years.

That is a PHENOMONAL slq Jaobler! I personally prefer more toning, but WOW, what detail on that key!

Another wow on the 23-S SLQ!
I'd be happy if my 1930 SLQ looked that good!
