Yikes! Nothing rare about that dime whatsoever. I hate to see what the ebay fees are for listing that!

Got a response back from ebay Australia..
Hello, Thank you for writing to ebay. My name is Marilyn and I appreciate the chance to assist you with your report regarding Item #110505027389. As you may be aware, ebay takes the issue of Shill Bidding very seriously. Shill bidding is a violation that, when detected, leads to animmediate sanction against the offending account. In light of the information you have provided, I have thoroughly reviewed the sellers items and transactions and at this point, I haven'tfound evidence to conclude that the seller is involved in shill bidding. Please understand that we employ a variety of sophisticated tools to determine this but as much as I would like to explain these, ebay policyrestricts me from doing so. Please be assured that given the information you have provided, we will take note of this report and further investigate this issue so that appropriate action can be taken. While I cannot necessarily keep you fully advised of the actions being taken, I promise to thoroughly investigate the information you have provided. We also added additional bidding information as a part of this change sothat members will still be able to detect and report suspicious activity. While we proactively search the site for Shill Bidding, we will continue to investigate Community reports of suspicious behaviour, and take action where appropriate. To read more about ebay's Shill Bidding policy, go to: http://pages.ebay.com.au/help/polic...bidding.html I do appreciate you for taking the time to inform us of this, as it clearly shows your concern and vigilance to make the site safe, secure and fun to use. It is members like you that help move this site to greater heights and for this we are thankful. I hope you may continue your assistance to us. Again, thank you for your email and please don't hesitate to let us knowif you have further questions or concerns. Regards, Marilyn M.eBay Customer Support_______________________________

I think the money laundering scheme proposed above could be a likely explanation.

Hi All

When I viewed the dime in this thread, I could not help but remember a clipping I had seen in a coin magazine about 35 - 40 years ago.

There was a person who advertised the following: "For one dollar, I will sell you a silver 'schooner'. Limited supply available"

Apparently people wanting to buy a 'silver schooner' received a dime. The seller was making a 900% profit and apparently sold quite a few of them before he was nabbed by the fraud squad.

I enjoy this forum and have a lot to learn.

Cheers

Bujutsu
