Would gold be devalued if these coins were produced in the masses like cents? There seems to be a big demand and not enough of these to go around. Maybe the mint should produce enough coins to meet demand so all collectors can have one.

I dont think they are sold out yet. I see the following message:
In order to ensure the broadest and most fair access to United States Mint products, a limit of 10 units per order and per household is in effect. Accordingly, all orders for American Buffalo Gold Proof One Ounce Coins will go immediately into a backorder status to ensure compliance with this policy. This quality assurance process should not impact the estimated delivery time. The United States Mint may reevaluate this limit and either adjust or remove it at any time.
Seeing you can still add one to your shopping cart, it looks like they did not sell the 300,000 limit yet

What makes me mad is that I pay taxes for this kind of sorry service. Typical of our government services today..... Just that simple. MM

Well I am a reborn coin collector. As a kid I loved it but most of what I thought was great, was not lol.
However, I have grabbed a couple things from the US Mint that I think have value. My over the top, have I gone crazy target, was this Buffalo gold coin.
I wasn't going to go for it but then they lowered the price and for $165 difference after shipping, I would rather have the proof.
But what a pain...2.5 hours trying to get through on phone and web. I finally got an order in via the web but it says backordered. I read the previous post of them doing this to cut down on some over agressive buyers, but it has me worried.
I look in my account and it says backordered, expected to ship 7/13/2006. Order status: suspended.
Anyone who got their order in earlier, have the same message? I would be so ticked if I missed out on this coin. I have been watching and waiting since they announced it's release.

If they would produce enough of these they wouldn't have to worry about aggressive buyers and hoarders and they'd make a stuffload of money at the same time!

I just was able to place my order after spending the first hour trying to get through by both computer and phone. It reminded me of trying to buy concert tickets. At least I was able to get through finally. I figured it would be sold out by the time I got through.

there will be more of them, I think there supposed to mint 30,000 of the proof versions and a unlimited amount of the Business strikes so even if they sold all their stock right now they will have more and since you are already on the backorder list you will be one of the first ones to receive theirs when they get the new batch in

There is plenty to go around, the proof mintage is 300,000. I believe that the 1oz. American Gold Eagle usually has a proof mintage of 1/10 of that. The problem is the fact that this is the first time the US has produced a 24kt coin AND it is the first day of issue so everyone wants to get theirs on the first day available. Remember, there will also be an uncirculated version as well that will probably have an even higher mintage and lower price.

It always shows that the first few hours.... Just print the form out with the order # and keep it. Check it in a day or 2, you should be OK. I saw where ALL orders will be backordered. That is to make sure people did not try to cheat and get more than 10..... I FINALLY got my order in around 2:30 or so....Whn I have my coins in hand, I will take back all the bad things I said about the Mint.....Until next order I guess.. MM

Seen where everyone was having problems with the web site, so went with Safari as my browser. Didn't even try my IE, and had now problem at all. Just thought if you were still having trouble with the site, you may want to use another browser.
