Thanks for that info Mike ;) This place really has lot of people like you in here who really know a
lot about coins, I'm learning. The more I browse the forum and other areas of the site, the more I notice this.
Lots of serious collectors of all sorts for all sorts of reasons or interests. A great place with LOTS
of substance. I've sure come to the right place to get addicted to coins and talking about them.

I really do think that coin is awesome for the full and clear repeated images of Abe. Almost spiritual
and historic, very artistic. Glad you found a good one Adam_E. Take lots of pictures

This really is a cool coin! It looks much better after BadThad conserved it.

A coin like this is truly a rare find!

I see that you've just listed it for sale for $175 in the BST section. Obviously, you are free to do as you wish with this coin. In my humble opinion, this is a coin that you will later regret selling. I can see that you are proud of it since you made it your avatar. Throughout your life, $175 will come and go in the blink of an eye. You can search rolls for many years and not find another coin like this.

Obviously, I'm encouraging you to hang onto it. After all, you got it for face value, so it's not like you have a bunch of money tied up into it. In the end however, the decision of whether or not to sell is yours and yours only.

As someone who has bought and sold numerous coins, a few of which I regret, I only wanted to offer my humble opinion...

Good luck!

i know that most would oppose of me selling it(and people might turn their noses up because of it) but I mean it doesn't really have a spot for me. I would rather have $175 to spend on a couple coins that I can use for my SETS then 1 loose coin that I don't really have a spot for.

To be honest with you Adam, I think you should pull it and save it. Thad did a nice job on the conservation and whether some disapprove of doing that kind of work, others would agree it was the best course of action. Me being in favor of using the Verdi-care in this case.
I could go and buy it and I think I know how to take my good old time and promote this coin and then list it and make a lot more than $175.00. This is why I said I might buy it.
But I think that this is one of those cases where others might not buy it either. It's all fair game, but I do think you have a few family friends here that are trying their best to save you a regretful move.
Whatever you think you can find at the FUN show will not excite you more than this coin did.
The novelty will wear off on the new acquisitions yet this coin will shine in your coin collection as long as you keep it no matter what splotches of arrested corrosion lie upon it's surface.
You should not sell this coin now. I decline because I can't be a good family member and take advantage of you. Trust us.

You might consider taking it to the FUN show and spark up interest. You had some veteran collectors in here very interested and stumped. There are some deep pockets at the FUN show. Perhaps it would be a good day to be a vest pocket dealer. But keep an eye on it. You might do way better than $175.00 in trade value at least or you might find somebody might pull you off to the side and surprise you with an offer you can't refuse.
Put it in an attractive container with a nice typewritten card that describes what Mike Diamond said on exactly how this occurred.
It was just edited moments ago.

I completely agree with Wheezydog. I'm surprized someone didn't immediately jump on that coin for $175.

If you want to fund your coin purchases with it, take it to a show and see why kind of offers you get. However, since it is a very rare coin with no established value (that I know of), the first thing a dealer will ask is how much you want for it. You might want to check out the dealers inventory FIRST to see if he has a coin(s) of interest to you. It might be easier to work out a trade and you might get more bang for your buck too. Personally, I would try to get at least $300 for this coin.....to the right person on the right day, that is reasonable....just my opinion. You might be able to pick out $300-400 worth of coins and get a trade, you never know until you try. Another factor working in your favor is your age. You might just find a dealer that wants to help a young numismatist. There's some mighty nice guys out there. Be honesty, tell them what coins you need and it might work out.

Now, just a warning, you will probably be told by some that it's worth like $20. They may talk the coin down saying it's corroded, etc.....so take the lowball values with a grain of salt. Remember, that is just another persons opinion and they may not know much about errors. There's plenty of ignorant dealers in the world., I've met quite a few. Hopefully, you won't run into many like that, but at a big show it's almost certain. Stick to what you know from the experts like Mike Diamond. Definately print out the post from him and bring that with you.

Good Luck!

Don't talk with any dealer that treats you poorly. You're a customer like any other and, if the dealer has a heart, they will take care of you for the sake of the future of the hobby.

All, about 90% of all, dealers will look at you like your an amatuer idiot when its usually the other way around. Just because their a dealer dont mean they know any more then you. Plus, your coins arent nearly worth as much as his coins are..lol They will always low ball you and sell really high. But thats the game I guess
