Well I got it today, and it's beautiful. The guy said he hadn't even really looked at it much, but when I said I wanted it, he looked closer and realized he wanted it himself. He said it had the best looking 1956 cent he had ever seen in a pf set. Of course, he could've just been saying that, but they are all problem free and VERY appealing to the eye. He made me promise not to cut it up, or sell it to anyone but him haha. I think it's the best looking of all my proof sets 59-64 by far.
Thanks for all the info. Oh, and the envelope is perfect too. "1956 P.C." Very crisp, no writing or marks whatsoever, it's just about perfect.

One more thing. I couldn't tell myself, but he said the Franklin was full bell and the Jeff was full steps.

Hey TC, you would expect FBL on the Franklin and FS on the Jefferson due to their being proofs. The only thing you really need to focus on is if there are and, if so, how deep are the cameos.

When we ordered the 1950's proof sets (back in the day !!) we ordered them in boxes of 10; so the sealed envelopes did not have any address on them.

jhs, I hope you are well, I could not help read your post about ordering Proof sets in the big blue box containing 10 sets or a double blue set of boxes with 20 sets in which you state the envelopes were not addressed and were sealed.
I did not mean to confuse any one with my statement, but to clarify, the only proof sets that were sealed were the ones that were addressed to people, meaning addressed on the actual envelope, 1- envelope containing 1-set.....I too have purchased those bulk 10 set orders, they came in a box, addressed to me or whom ever and ALL the envelopes were NOT sealed, sometimes the environmental conditions caused the glue on the envelopes and there were some "sealed", but NOT by the Mint employees, this just was not done, I have discussed this with many people and some actually state the "envelopes were sealed", again, NOT by the Mint, but from climate conditions.....Mike..PS, I have been collecting since 1963, I am sure others will also remember this being "the way it was".....

Morgan; were the white boxes of five sets unsealed envelopes? I have yet to see a sealed envelope with an address on them. We ordered them in sets of 10 and 5...the sets of five came in a sturdy, white cardboard box...sealed with no name on the envelope.
I'd love to see an unsealed 56, 57 proof set with the buyer's address on it. Then I could say I've seen one !
thanks. Jim

Jim, I would love to show you, I will get to the bank soon and take some pictures for you. I would also suggest, going to a nice sized coin show and look around, I know you will see some of the mint/proof sets addressed in a yellowish envelope, sealed for mailing purposes.... Mike

Mike...I live in the boondocks and have no clue when I'll have the opportunity to travel to a larger coin show.

Till I can get you some pictures, check E-Bay for the same, later, Mike...PS, look at the older, nicer, sweet sets, they will bear out what I have been saying, good luck!!!

That sure is a lot of envelopes, Jim, I will try to explain to you exactly what I meant in my previous posts, ( I have a problem sometimes explaining myself ). The envelopes you are showing on the e-bay sight are from the small boxes you also see in the pictures, they were sent in large amounts, in those boxes, hence, no address on the envelopes. I am referring to the old days when you as a consumer would write the you S Mint and order a proof set, they would then address one of those envelopes you see in the auction to the person who ordered the set and place a proof set in the envelope, seal the envelope and mail it to that person!! The envelopes you see in the picture you refer to those envelopes were not sealed by the mint. You can plainly see the ebay auction you point out ALL of the envelopes were not addressed, but placed in the boxes you see and the boxes you see were addressed.....Mike...

Mike; thanks. I wish I had a proof set from then that had our name and address on it...not kidding...it is something my coin collection is missing.
That auction makes me salivate....makes me want to utter profanities, too.
I want every single envelope in that auction.

I would also not mind having some of them, but I would venture a guess there are MANY, MANY, duplicates and judging from the way they look, handled wise, I wonder about the condition of most?
I will try to get you some pictures of mint sets and proof sets, I purchased with peoples addresses on them!!
