Ahh, you should have gotten her more involved and you might have had a sporting chance. You see, my wife is the one who picked them

I asked her but she had some lame excuse about a wedding to plan. "Please, that is why I wrote all of those checks" I told her...I think she may come back to me next week. LOL

If I were to run another game sometime in the future, would anyone be interested if the prize were a 1970 mint set (in pliofilm)? I have a few of these in my drawer, 1971 as well.
Should I try to make it an American coin or set instead?

Personally, I love the Canadian prizes. A mint set would be awesome! (Does pliofilm mean anything to us?)

Definitely, rikcando.. all coins are worth having, and (imho) Canada ones especially!

Nice call on the draw - I had kind of figured John Paul or nod or someone else would swoop in and grab it up, but I guess not. Sending a PM

This might be the wrong term for it, but it means that plastic wrap that is put on it at the mint. They've never been opened but have sat in their plastic foil wrap for the last 40 years, occasionally getting taken out of the envelop to be admired, then placed back in the envelop and back into the drawer.

But please correct me if the term 'pliofilm' is incorrect.

I know some coins will get damaged over time if there is PVC or something in the plastic. Was just wondering what this was. Apparently, it must be ok if they're still in the set. Have any of them toned over time?

I have not noticed any toning in any of my (I guess they call them proof-like sets) pliofilm set coins. I have a stack of envelopes about 3 or 4 inches tall dating back into the 60's which I will look over tonight and let you know.

I'll be honest and say that I am not sure which ones are proof sets and which are specimen sets. I also have some called prestige sets in nice hard cover black book-like cases. they've changed what they call them from time to time and I'm getting to old to bother keeping current with the names.
Show me the coins I say, call it what you want.

if this means anything to anyone, this is what the dictionary says this is:

Plio•film (pl#299;#8242;#601; film#8242;)
noun
a transparent sheeting of chlorinated rubber used for raincoats, as a packaging film, etc.

Everyone ... will receive a prize equal to that of the second place prize listed on page 1 and shown on page 3.

That's very nice, rikcando! I could put those cents in my collection while I wouldn't know what to do with the entire roll. Sending you PM.

I've added an extra penny or two to the prize package, but everyone will still receive the same basic prize. Extra penny dates vary slightly.

I have also typed up a page with some information about the coins since they began using the current monarch in 1953. Sorry, no 1950's included, earliest is 1964.

Prize envelopes will be addressed tonight and mailed before 8pm.

Thank you all for playing and good luck on later rounds.

Rick
