Yes, they are easy to but... But sometimes hard to unload. You should buy under melt definitely, or look elsewhere.

Admittedly I don't know anything about the refining business, but why are 40% coins supposedly more work to extract silver than the 90%? Isn't the process going to be the same? Or is it simply b/c it's a lower yield that it takes more time than it would to extract the same amount of silver from the 90%. That's probably the real reason, basic economics, but curious of there was a refining reason as well.

Correct, you have to process more than twice the amount of metal to get the same amount of silver.

The 40%s have more copper in them, copper is a precious metal, as well, and the refiners also refine that. Just something else we might bear in mind when we're offering to sell these 40%s to refiners.

Well I think I got a good deal this past weekend. Sold $260 face with 78 war nicks, 490 Franklins and WLH, 1130 Mercs and Rosies and about 2 rolls of Washingtons for $6300.

You're looking at 8 month old prices. $5.84 is scrap now, so 680 = $3971.20.

Heck, when I saw $2600, I wanted to know who to write the check to, then I looked at the date of the post.

There is a site that sounds like *** There is a reason why that site cannot be mentioned here! Please do not try to get around the filters that prevent it! *** that can be used to check current melt values of most modern issues.

$260 face - $3.90 = 256.10 * 27 = 6914.70 + (3.9 * 36.37) = 6914.70 + 141.85 = 7056.55

$3.90 war * 36.37 = 141.85
$245 halves * 27 = 6615.00
$113 dimes * 27 = 3051.00
$20 quarters * 27 = 540.00
$381.90 face = 10347.85

Not clear what you sold, but if it was the latter, you got 60.88% of silvertowne's current buy.
