Potty dollar...that was funny. Perhaps it's my child-like humor.

That area is very deeply incised, and on uncirculated specimens of the CBQ, the union shield practically floats on top of the eagle on the level with the highest points of the wings. Someone was practicing his chasing skills with a jewelers knife or some such 19th Century implement, the craftsmanship is very good.

Yeah, my thoughts as well. A pretty neat coin all things considered.

Well I just saw the closed auction, and I have to say I hate bidding on items from sellers who claim to know nothing about the item they're selling or that they received it from their granddaddy or some such hokum story. The quarter, I think, is misrepresented, should be listed as its true grade, plus "damaged" reverse.  The chasing is too small to appeal to the hobo nickel/love token crowd, and no dealer will pay full bid for the coin, since there was never that error on the union shield of the CBQ in '31. Did you email the seller about the questionable reverse prior to bidding on the coin? It is an interesting modification of the coin, but subtracts value rather than adds. That was quite a hefty chunk of change for it, I am afraid.

P.S. The biggest red flag is the sellers no return policy, which in my book, automatically blocks me from bidding unless it's cheap enough to throw away my money. There is usually a reason why they don't want the coins back which they do not disclose to you. Perhaps you want to paste the link so other members can weigh in?

Uh-Oh.

Anyway, I like it because it takes on the appearance of a weave or a plaid, but pictures, especially those of this quality can, more times than not, be deceiving.

zazenboy, listen, I buy coins I like and pay what I want to pay. Give me link to 10 coins with similar images and I'll buy 10 more @ $140.00 each. I don't accept your lame apology and have formed an unfavorable opinion of you, as I'd bet many others have.
Question: Have you been banned or refused by other coin forums?

postscript: I wrote this response to a posting by zazenboy that has been deleted.

Personally I have never seen a CBQ with horizontal lines in the shield so I can only guess that it is post mint damage, but I have been known to be wrong on more than one occasion...

Yeah, PMD it is, but seemingly skillful PMD. I like it.

Interesting that anyone would spend so much time doing such a neat, almost original looking design. And for what purpose and then to put it back in change. Odd too is how the top of the lady's hair is worn off but the LIBERTY is still completely clear.

That is pretty cool IMO even if it is "damage"

I like it, can't wait to see it in hand. CBQs sell for high retail in my neck of the woods, at least in shops, flea markets, and shows. I doubt I'll sell it in any case. Thanks for the input everybody.
