Be careful about the no confirmation on shipping or he can just say you never sent it back and you are SOL if you go to paypal about it.

I'd be inclined to take the $40 refund and be done. However, I would not be held hostage with feedback BEFORE the refund. Explain to him that feedback occurs AFTER the deal is completed to everyones satisfaction.

On every ebay transaction I have had, postage is always a concern. It often costs more to ship an item than the item itself. However, since you aren't satisfied with the coin, send it back and take the hit. Keeping it is only going to add toxicity to your life. Every time you look at it you are going to get angry, so get rid of the darn thing ! Man, let loose of the bad stuff and move on. That particular coin is not worth the grief. It's not worth the stress it has already brought. Get rid of it !

Just my opinion

With something like that you need to know what a 67 looks like.
I just got a few in the store yesterday and after looking at the it in OBVIOUS that that was no 67. Also its been said before but there were just to many red flags.

Part if this ebay transaction was my oversight because while he didn't provide all of the photos where they normally are, he wrote back and stated that they were together with the description. In fact, they were but I didn't notice that. I saw all of the sales mumbo jumbo and thought that those photos were part of this sales banner or something.

Meaning no disrespect, that statement puts the whole thing plainly on your shoulders. You did not practice the fundamental rule of shopping, the equivalent of grabbing a banana at the grocery without even checking to see if it's overripe. And you wish to make the seller pay for your omission?

Now, for the second point. The coin I see pictured - you must confirm that they are the original pictures, unchanged - looks very different to me than the opinions presented in this thread. Unlike many ebay photos, there is enough data presented in these to form some reasonable-probability judgments concerning the coin, and I see a Mint State coin in these pictures. With even better photos, I would happily change my opinion, but were it me (with years of experience looking at ebay photographs and thousands of my own shots in my resume), I would approach this one thinking it were MS64.

I've a little concern regarding the cheek. All other evidence points to a Mint State coin, and in balance I'd favor it being Uncirculated. The final step, for me, would be to crack it and study the reeding - for the price, at least in my life, the educational value is worth it.

Take the $40 and run. Then post pics of your own here.

I do a lot of ebay transactions and I totally agree with BadThad. Take the hit, learn from your loss and so NOT agree to the feedback until all parties are satisfied. Consider it a learning lesson, we have all been there or will be at some point in collecting.

Badthad has an excellent point, Never give in to being leveraged about feedback,( or anything else for that matter ). I am of another school of thought, Never be taken by a slickster or anyone that presents something for what it clearly is not!!

Keep us in the loop!!

Remember to learn a bit more about grading and slabs like these before making a purchase that involves the word overseas and basement slabber. I agree with most of the people in this thread and vote you take the $40.

I agree with SuperDave, including that it looks like an MS coin to me.

The listing is a violation of ebay rules; I don't know if that'd help you get a wanted to get a full refund with a paypal dispute.

Looking at this seller's completed listing's, they've made quite a haul of these and should be reported.

Lodge ebay dispute, for item not as described, don't contact seller again, if ebay require proof send them your correspondence from seller, especially re-feedback/blackmail. Hes giving us Aussie sellers a bad name. Lesson learnt but follow thru and get your money back.

This was definitely a lesson learned. I was in surgery yesterday so I didn't read your responses before taking action. I ended up just settling on the $40 just to be done with it. Even more egg on my face when I saw the the paypal email indicating that he refunded, I went to ebay and finished his feedback. Went to paypal and saw that he sent $40AUD and not USD. Another $4.50 short. I just had to laugh.

I'm going to have to see if there is a way to shut off viewing of international ebay items. I always hope that posting a topic (even a topic that makes me look like an idiot), might help someone else down the road.

That's an admirable sentiment. I honestly think you didn't do too badly, money-wise, with this one.

I don't think you can exclude international sellers except in Saved Searches; I may be wrong.

On the left there is an option to view item locations from North America or just USA.

I'm still working on getting my camera setup but I would like to post some shots. The coin looked MS to mw, even if I did only see one side. :) but in hand there is noticeable wear on and above the ear and eye. Contact marks happen but there there are numerous scratches on the face and neck. On the reverse there there is minor wear on the breast, tops of the legs and talons. Just not visible on the pictures.
