Sherry: I live near Easton. Must be BOA policy around here.
tornandfrayed75: Great score at the gas station.
Update: I went into PNC Bank today to see if I could buy a couple of rolls of James Buchanan Dollars since BOA and KNBT didn't have any. The teller in PNC said she couldn't sell me any if I didn't have an account.

What I always do is mark the outside of the roll with a black or blue X so if I ever get it back I will trade it in immediately. I go through alot of halves and very few times have I actually got a roll back that I have already gone through. The tellers dont care that I placed an X on the roll.

technically you dont buy the coins from the bank but you go and swap currency. Buying would be getting a coin and paying above face value. just say that there is a sale (or some neighborhood sale) and say that you need change and that you would like to give out the "odd" currency (halves and dollar coin) as change... Good luck.

RPT- I went to a PNC out near 191 and picked up some halves, nickels and dimes. They waited until I was about to hand over the bills to ask me if I had an account. I said, I am not conducting a transaction that costs you anything. They told me that I had to have an account in the future. This was the same bank with the attitude from before. Coincollector123- :), I am going to give that a shot!
thank you all again for your help :)

My grandma's trick was that she knew a teller from church and she would keep an eye out for her and bring her finds on Sunday. Grandma would then take her out to lunch every now and again.
Can't beat delivery!
(I'm still waiting to find such a friend.)

Taking your kids along helps too. While picking up my boxes for the week, a guy came in with his bag of change (he's dumping where I pick up, which is why I prefer the Brinks boxes). He didn't have a kid with him like I did - he had his parrot which proceeded to eat one of the dum-dum suckers they keep for kids.

A little off here, but I used to live in Boise, and just south was Jackpot Nevada. Casinos are a great place, (if they still do the real money thing and not the vouchers). I would get a room and spend a couple of days going through the Half Rolls... Almost every time I found enough 40% and 90% to PAY for the trip... woohoo... coins and free!

Tips on how to get along with a bank teller: 1. Marry one. Might not get along with other things but for coins, might work out. 2. Check all your friends, nighbors and relatives. If none work in a bank, suggest they do. 3. Get a job in a bank yourself and become a teller 4. Go to a prison and ask to speak to all the prisoners that robbed banks. Ask them what they did and don't do that. 5. If your old, hire a younger person to go to the banks for you. Most tellers are young and a possible date with a customer is one of the reasons the tellers are there.

Yes, "wierd stuff" seems to be the magic phrase. Aside going for boxes, I had this saved for me at Home Fed. yesterday. Not much, but they're getting the drill.

Quote: I have no idea what it was I did wrong in this situation or if she was just having a bad day. Does anyone have any tips on how to get interesting stuff from tellers? Why don't you come out, with your red dress on, come out, umm you look so fine, come out, move it nice and easy, girl, you'll make them lose their mind! Sorry.

Never, ever...underestimate the power of the simple gift of a box of doughnuts or cookies folks. I picked up a box of nickels earlier today...and the teller handed me a 1953S silver dime during the transaction.

If I am in a queue at the bank, I usually watch the tellers and try to assess which will be most friendly. Listen to how they are interacting with other customers. If I "draw" a less preferable teller, I will often fumble around and make up some excuse the let the person behind me "cut" so I can get the best teller. Also, I try to determine who is the head/commercial teller, if possible, since that person will probably know from memory what (e.g. half dollar rolls) is in the vault, and have the quickest access to the vault. Often the head teller is on the end and, in banks where tellers are behind glass, has a "pass through" window rather than the "slide through" slots.

Just got my first box, a box of cents and 5 rolls of quarters. Suntrust bank, just walked up and asked for them, was expecting her to think I was weird but she happily just went under the counter at her station and came up with the box of cents and the quarters.
