I think I have bought from him as well. His name sounded familiar. I'll have to double check my ebay history.

While both of those coins from Executive at a glance look nice for the grade, both have serious enough rim damage that they'd likely not grade if presented to the services. You should look for one with no such distractions.

Another resource is Dick Osburn ... the Godfather of Seated coinage. Dick accurately describes and grades his inventory. You won't find any flea market bargains, but you won't get gouged for an over-graded or problem coin. http://www.dickosburn.com/Inventory.cfm

I would stick with either certified coins or a highly trusted seller when buying Seated dollars. They are expensive and there's a lot of counterfeit coins out there.

There's a number of good suggestions on this thread for online sellers. One not mentioned as well is nfccoins.com. There's also Heritage Auctions - coins.ha.com.

Good hunting! They are a couple of the tougher of coins in the 7070.

Check out https://www.briangreerrarecoins.com Brian usually has a good stock on most Seated coins, and he's reliable in his descriptions.

I am in a similar position, as I am down to needing only the "No Motto" Seated dollar for my type set. I almost always buy certified, unless by a very reputable dealer. The thing with Seated dollars though, is even certified ones usually are not completely problem free. I am heavily considering this one right now by the recommended "Executive Coin Company"...

Lots of pros and cons with this one, but the bottom line is that I havent seen one even close to this in eye appeal in the $500-$600 range period, even looking at certified examples. It also looks closer to AU. However, I suspect an old cleaning(although I asked and ECC states that they don't think it had been cleaned). Also, a minor rim nick on the reverse, though I've seen much worse in slabs.

I've bought from Chuck, too! =) Got my first colonial - a Connecticut Copper from him. And I agree wholeheartedly with what paleo said - take it down one grade and you've got it right. He's always got great coins, I like to watch his auctions and gawk.

Maybe just me, but even possibly cleaned, I think this is a great buy at that price!

thanks Moe! I decided to go for it! I've been on my soapbox preaching about "never" purchasing a raw Seated dollar, then I go and do it..lol. Everyone speaking to the reputability of this company helps. I'll double check it when it arrives, but honestly, I have searched for a nice certified XF no motto with eye appeal for over a year now and have come up empty handed.

Chuck is solid.

One other source if you are trying to keep costs down is to buy an ANACS Details slab. NGC also is doing details slabs and there's the PCGS Genuine.

I bought an 1860-O ANACS XF Details Cleaned/Corroded Seated dollar about 3 years ago for $200 or so. It's not a bad coin for the price.

Problem-free slabbed are $600 or more from what I've seen.

I picked up a mottto version today locally. Now all I need is a no motto and a 2 1/2 liberty to finish my 7070.
