Best Banks For Dumping Halves \ Beginner Tips?

Do you regularly spend large quantities of cash for purchases? I suppose you could use them to pay your taxes, but that would not be very frequent. Other then that, bank coin counters are the best way to go.

I have yet to encounter a bank to deny service accepting half dollars in exchange for cash. Although they may not be happy to serve you.

I've dealt with Citibank and Bank of America.

Don't really like either bank, or any bank for that matter but it works.

I use accounts at several different banks. I will then take them to other towns and dump them, usually at the business tellers window. Deposit them into your account. Don't ask to exchange them for paper money. I have a BB&T branch that I go to to dump and the tellers love it when I bring them in. They know that rolls of halves can contain silver and they will hunt the rolls themselves. Get customer rolled halves anytime you can. I have had my best finds come from them.

My other tip is to not dump them at the bank you order them from, or even another branch of the same bank. 1, it will be even more likely to irritate the tellers, and 2, you might just end up searching the same coins over and over.

I only go to wachovia banks for searching, since my parents only have accounts with them. I only check the sides of the rolls for silver, then slide them right back in but you could look for errors, proofs.

I use 1 branch to dump my coins, and order from another branch. PNC is my dump bank, and in my area they have about 8-10 locations all within a 20 minute drive. I just switch up which ones I dump off each load at. This way bank #1 will not see me for 8 weeks, as I have bank # 2/3/4/5/6/7/8 to dump at the following weeks.

I always get String & Son boxes, and they have done me good thus far. No super mega boxes yet, but I average at least 1 or 2 pieces of silver per box. Of course you will encounter dry spells, but do not let that demoralize you, keep it up!

One piece of advice, DO NOT SIDE SEARCH! A lot of 40%'s will slip by you! I had 2 40%'s today that I would have never known if I only checked the sides.

Another side note, your $500 will do you well. Imagine trying to offload $2000 of halves every week. Some tellers really don't like seeing me lug in bags of halves.
