Silver Maples are bullion coins; this one is not. Don't compare the two.

This is a great coin, and the way it was issued was part of the thrill of the hobby!

How the mighty have fallen. One went unsold on ebay at $200. None have been sold there in a very very long time. Hang in there Dcadon, in a couple of years you'll be able to complete your ship collection at a reasonable price.

Thanks for bringing this coin to my attention. I just got a 'best offer' accepted by Colonial Acres and I am quite happy to add this little known gem to my collection. Pictures to follow upon it's arrival.

@Dcadon: Glad you found one -- it is a nice coin. For awhile, I was contemplating a Jacques Cartier themed sub-collection -- I like explorers! -- and picked up one of these for it.
I was going to post images of mine, but don't want to steal your thunder. I look forward to seeing yours when it arrives.

Very Nice! Glad you're happy with your new addition. IMO, John Mardon, the designer, did a good job with his somewhat stylized rendering of the ship. I remember my initial thoughts when I first saw the coin -- I noticed how the view-from-above perspective Mardon used allows the ship's main deck to be seen and that it was empty - no crew! I couldn't help but think "ghost ship!"

Funny. I have no association or connection to sailing in any way shape or form - yet I seem to be drawn to these designs on coins - to the point where I am accumulating a small collection. Odd and interesting at the same time.

"Ships on coins" is among the most popular topical collecting areas. Within this general topic area, "sailing ships on coins" is particularly popular. Many collectors pursue a collection of world coins with depictions of ships - being drawn to such designs appears to be a very common "disease."
