Thanks guys.
First of all - SuperDave...coming from you, I consider that a real compliment. I can remember back when I was still pretty green, in both the forum and coin collecting, you were always ready with much needed advice when I was unsure of something.....happened alot back then, and still happens today; however, not quite as much today as back then. I've been reading and trying top put what I read into practice.

Sprucansailor - I started collecting coins back in March of 2005, so it's creeping up on six years. I started out with a few of these and a few of those, and I've just kept adding to my sets - got a few that are complete - even more that are incomplete, but I'm working on 'em.

Johnny54321 - doubt I'll ever have an 1856 - costs too much, and the Dansco Album doesn't have a hole for it. I've been using them as sort of a guide for my collection - got an empty hole, find the appropriate (and, hopefully inexpensive) coin to fill that hole.

Whats next? I never know - I've got several sets of circulated coins that are near completion - missing key and semi key dates. I usually don't put alot of concentration into a particular set until I'm down to the keys. Then, it's all about watching and waiting (and saving). I get there....just not too fast.

Again, guys, thanks for the compliments - they mean alot.

Ralph

Congratulations on your accomplishment! It's a big deal completing an IHC collection, I just finished mine earlier this year after 10 years of working on it(minus the 1856).

Congratulations!!

Funny that you skipped the '56... honestly, it's one of the only coins I would consider a true "investment" and as a result, it's high on my list. But its price is prohibitive - I do get that!

I've almost got my Lincoln Wheats done - I'm down to the '09 S VDB. It'll be some time until I catch up with you!

What's next? Upgrades? New sets? Large cents?

Yeah, the 1856 is definitely a show stopper. I don't know anyone who actually owns one in real life or on this forum (though I'm sure there is someone here who does). My comment was more tongue and cheek. It is never a coin I could go out and buy, BUT if I ever decided to consolidate my collection into a few high value coins, the 1856 FE would be one of my top choices, along with some pre 1834 US gold.

Okay Moe. The scans didn't turn out all that well because I'm having problems with my old scanner, but they'll give you an idea of the condition of the coin.
If you'd care to check out my small cents collection, I have scans of the obverse album pages posted in the member's photo galleries - got 'em all there - FE&IHC, Wheat, and Memorial. Go on over, and check 'em out.

That looks pretty strong to me for a G-4. I could see it as a 6. Nice pickup!

That's what grade PCGS assigned it. But, no matter the grade, I'm happy to have it - been waiting for one that I could afford for a long time.

Congratulations! and nice 1877 too. They are hard to find, but even harder in a nice problem free grade (even lower circulated grades) as I'm sure you know. The 1856 is missing from my 'complete' flying eagle/indian head collection, too, and I doubt i'll ever have one. I started on the large cents recently, and find them a nice challenge. Low mintages compared to the indians, much harder to find a problem free coin, and still rather reasonable prices.

Andrew, a couple posts back, I pointed Moe in the direction of the CCF Members Photo Galleries. When you have the time, saunter on over there, and check out some of the coins in my collection. I've only posted the obverse album pages (Dansco) because it's not a high dollar collection that would warrant scans of both the obverse and reverse. And, too, I'm just too danged lazy to go to all that trouble for alot of circulated coins, but the scans I have posted there will give you a pretty good idea of what I'm working with.
