I'm not sure I like that mint mark. Even a G-4 specimen, like this one, is worth much more if it is a Carson City.
5 grams is spec. That said, I strongly recommend that if you wish to continue pursuing numismatics, you should invest in a digital scale. A suitable scale can be acquired for around $20-$30 USD.

I'm sure it is possible that it is fake, but I doubt it. At the time that I bought it (probably 1986 or 1987), there was not much of a premium for the 1875-CC Twenty Cent Piece. In the 1987 Red Book, it is listed at $45 in Good 4, while the 1875-P was listed at $50 and the 1876-P was listed at $75. When I bought it, the coin was not quite so ugly. If I remember correctly, I think it was described as being cleaned so I doubt I paid much for it. Since then, it spent about 6 weeks in the flood waters of Katrina and that accounts for a lot of the problems that you see on it today. The next time I make a submission to PCGS, I may include this coin and try to get it it in a Genuine holder. |

UPDATE:
I sent the coin to PCGS and it came back in a Genuine holder:) In addition to getting a 98 grade indicating damage, it is also labeled Edge/Rim Damage. That is funny because I never noticed a problem with rims. I thought it would come back with Environmental Damage.
I'm happy though, because I think the genuine holder adds some value to the coin.

Awesome on the gennie holder. I'd say G/VG details. Definitely not my series. And please don't sell this coin. It has a great story behind it.

Is the rim damage at 5 o clock on the obverse? I see a smallish dent there. Also, what's up with the notch in the denticles at 2 o clock on the obverse. Some sort of die variety maybe?

There does to be a small dent on the rim at 5 o clock, but I don't think it is enough to keep a g or vg coin from being graded. I don't know about die varieties for this coin.
Again, I don't think that this coin should be in a problem free holder. I was just surprised that PCGS chose to highlight Edge/Rim damage.
