In September, I searched through a total of 21,480 quarters. While there were no truly spectacular finds, I did very well, finding 12 keepers: five silvers (1938, 1942-D, 1943, 1952-S, 1964-D), five West Point Coins, a 2004-S Iowa Proof, and a 2013-S Maryland NIFC coin. You'll note that a couple of the silver quarters (1942-D, 1952-S) have a goldish appearance. The edges of the coins were purposely almost worn thin - the reeding on the edges is all but absent (they both weigh a little less than they should as a result) and it looks like someone tried to gold plate them - both came from separate groups of Fed Brinks rolls from one of my two main branches. The 1938 came from the same batch which included the 1942-D... very rare for me to get two silvers out of my standard 20 roll group!

Any 1930s quarter is a great find. I think I've found three in 750+ boxes.

Thanks, all!
And, TomM, finding quarters in the '30s is indeed quite a rare thing... and I was especially fortunate as the 1938 is one of only three Philly coins in the series with a sub-10 million mintage (1932, 1949 are the others)... in terms of years and combined mintages, only 1932 is a harder year to find.

I don't normally hunt quarter boxes. I decided to give it a shot and look for the privy mark. First 2 boxes solid Mayflower. Second 2 boxes same thing. Next 2 boxes regular mix of coins. I'm sure this was beginners luck picked 5 silver from those 2 boxes very very surprised.

Nice, cabowabo. I average one silver every four to five boxes, so that would be a great score for me.
Definitely watch for W mintmarks as well, they are worth about 1.5x as much as a silver quarter.

Excellent! My last silver quarter find from rolls was several years ago.

It's been a while since my last quarter searching update. To be precise, it's been 100 boxes, each box being $500, or 2000 coins. In my most recent one hundred boxes of quarters, I've found 57 West Point mintmarks, 15 silver Washington quarters, and one 1963 Canadian silver quarter. I had a bad streak of ten boxes with just one W found, but also streaks of ten boxes or more with at least one W or silver in each box. This does not include the three of four boxes of solid new DOI quarters that I searched (in vain) for July 4th privy marks back in July and August. Quarter searching is productive - especially for W mintmarks - but it is not for the faint of heart! I find much more silver in dimes, and more interesting dates and mintmarks in nickels.
