Your right enforcer al, the Small bust has a lot more detail in the hair.

The small bust looks like it has an extra bump or clump of hair from the back of the neck up to the crown. By more definite, I am saying that the extra bump is almost separate from the hair, just like where the jewel is separated from the crown on some coins.

this is one coin that as soon as you see the difference you will never have to go back to a book.....the picture is excellent and how I have always told the difference of the two coins is by the beads as any small bust that is worn the deatil on the hair becomes less pronounced

I go by the hair lines- the large bust has very smooth hair lines, the small bust has very strongly engraved hair lines.

I though it was pretty easy using these pics.I checked my stash of Canadian coins and had two 1973 SB.

When looking at the beads...the large bust beads are almost touching the rim while the small bust beads have a wider spread between the rim and the beads. That is how I check.

Look at the bead - rim spacing, it's a very easy variety to identify. If you're still not sure, the SB is the only 25c from the early 1970's NOT to be a large bust. Grab a 1972, 1974, whatever, and compare them to a 1973.

Also, stop looking at 1969 dimes. You have a better chance in winning the lottery.

Ahh... MoonRacer, I'll bet there are still a few 1969 large date ten cents still in circulation.

If, only I could find one..

I went through rolls of quarters for 6 months- 10 to 40 per day, and finally found one. I know of one person who got one from an ice cream truck!

It would be great to find one in change,I usually look at the detail in the hair (LB has less) the beads on a lg bust you caanot fit a pen tip between them and the rim. Comparing put a 1972 down beside a 1973 if the detail in the bust looks the same...
