Thanks for all the comments! My goal was to get a collection in VF30 to AU, but I can't resist the MS when I come across them at decent prices. I agree Deltron, so many are VG to F with corrosion and/or that have been cleaned. It's tough to find ones even in VF that pass my threshold for problem free. And with mintages (mostly) between 2.5 and 5 million a year, it makes it even harder to be picky.

AndrewJConnors - I just counted 7 different depictions of lady liberty on the large cent run, and they actually vary quite a bit. The design seems to get more refined as you get later in the series. The last design, from 1840-1857, is pictured here above.

SuperDave, spot on! I saw your guess on the grade then realized I left it out of the initial post. PCGS agrees with you and gave it MS64BN.

Beautiful coin! I have long admired Large cents but only recently set my sights on a Braided Hair collection. I am limited to the VF - XF range but certainly admire them in better grades. You did a great job on the photographs as well.

Nice, very clean and sharp.. wish I had a MS in my collection, I am having a hard enough time trying to build a G/VG collection. Started with G/VG think I have to stick with it now.

Very nice indeed. I like the look of old copper, especially one that has aged as well as this one has.

Good question upstate (upstate NY?). For the 1853 N-15, PCGS has certified this single coin at this level and 3 finer.
