Well the auction closed at $130 but it was $172 out the door from Heritage Auctions. Buyer's premium (buyer's remorse), S&H, plus tax. Sheesh, an extra $42 tacked on the selling price. First and last time I'll be using their site.

I know what your saying SideKick, I think I over Paid for a PF 70, 1990 SAE, w/ buyers prem and s&h it came to $236. I hate to pay buyers prem. for any coins under $200. I wouldn't say I wont be using them anymore. But I will say I wont be buying any coins under 200 on their anymore.

Most closed ebay prices show in the $150 range, so I'd say anything in that general area isn't out of line.

Nothing to kick the dog about (horrible saying I know - bad inside family joke to be explained at a later date and time)

Do you live in TX or does the tax get added anyway? $130 sounds great, then adding 15% for the Buyers Premium makes it $149.50 which still isn't too bad. $22.50 for S&H + tax is hard to swallow though.

Sidekick, I've never brought from Heritage but they're very reputable. The 15% buyer's premium is widely understood and you just need to account for that when you're bidding. 22 bucks for shipping on a $150 coin is quite steep, though. Perhaps they have strict rules about shipping certified/sig required/insurance, etc. They are used to dealing with high end coins.
Truth be told $150 is an approximate median, but I saw many sell for more. I wouldn't say you got a deal, but in no way did you get taken to the cleaners. But with that spot on the rim of the reverse in the 8 O'Clock position, I think it should have gone for a bit less. At the same time it's in an old PCGS "raddler" slab and many people pay small a premium for that reason alone.
You may have buyers remorse, but believe me this one is nothing to beat yourself up over. Many collectors, including myself, have made much worse and more expensive mistakes. I wouldn't even call your case a mistake, you're just regretting your high bid after the fact and it's really not that bad.

Anything $125 - $150 out the door is a fair price for that coin
NOTE: In a retail store setting $200 would not be uncommon those guys have to cover their overhead

Heritage charges sales tax for any items sold to bidders in Texas or California. Used to be that we Californians could avoid the tax if the winning bid plus buyers fee topped $1000 but now that minimum is up to $1500. It's been quite a while since I've bid in a Heritage auction.
Your coin looks solid for the grade and it's in an older green-label holder (OGH) which many buyers consider desirable. Maybe you overpaid a bit but if you like the coin you shouldn't have any regrets.

Here's the breakdown. Hammer price $130, Buyer premium $19.50, S&H $8.15, sales tax $14.58, Grand total $172.23. I do think I got a good price on the coin itself and most of you seem to agree. I'm glad to have it. It's a beauty. I know Heritage has a very good rep but I don't think I'll be going back except to use as a price guide. With all those extra charges it increased the price by about a third. The only time I've ever had to pay sales tax is when the seller has been located right here in CA and the shipping from Heritage is definitely exhorbitant.

Ah. Sales tax. Forgot about that. Heritage has a Beverly Hills office; having a physical location in California, they're required to charge Sales Tax on California-bound sales.

I don't remember how they ship the coins but I know USPS rates have gone up. I always send my items usps priority mail with signature confirmation if I sell one on ebay just to be sure the mail person doesn't just leave it at the door, and it costs me close to 8 bucks to ship the item that way. I used to eat some of the charges but with times being as hard as they have been around here I can't afford to do that any longer
