I don't think it's a bad price and you wouldn't go wrong if you did buy it, but I would think for just another $10-20, you could get a nice AU example. Just casting my vote.

I agree, there are plenty of higher grade examples available, almost too many. Mid grade examples are few and far between.

I really wanted a nice brown one and I was just not finding them. I finally found a solid brown AU for $130. For the record, I could have bought a red-brown AU for the same price or cheaper, but I love my brown wheat cents and wanted him to match.

That being said, I would have gladly paid $90 for this one. I think it is a better match for my collection and I would have saved $40.

It really depends on your goals. If you are, like me, building a nice, brown, mid grade wheat collection, the go for it. If you think you would be upgrading this one eventually, then go ahead and get the higher grade now (they are plentiful).

This is what I came up with on numismedia.com...

Lincoln Cents - 1931 S BN

FMV Prices (Good-MS60)

G4 78.20

VG8 94.30

F12 98.90

VF20 104.65

XF40 113.85

AU50 126.50

AU53 132.25

AU55 144.00

AU58 156.00

MS60 162.00

The one I spoke of was at a coin show two years ago this coming February. It may be still available, but I will not know until I go back this March. However, there are usually plenty of them at the coin show I go to.

From what I have seen, nice examples of 31s go for around $100.
This is a nice 31s for a decent price.

You want to check with copppercoins first. He is always saying he has a new web site for the sale of Lincoln Cents. And supposed to be really decent prices.
That 31S was greatly hoarded in high grades so that is why so many are so cheap. Look for one in AU or better for hat price range.
