I have both the uncirculated and proof version of this coin. I bought them from the mint in 1982. These were the first commemorative half dollars of the modern era.

Wish it was not so worn, but I love that I found it in a roll. Was as fun find.

Considering that I was twelve at the time, I do not think that their future value crossed my mind.

I would never sell them, though. They occupy two of the four commemorative half dollar spots in my Dansco 7070.

Exactly. It has a story to tell, and your finding it is part of that story.

Yes, you have a 250 year anniversary George Washington birth half dollar commemorative. I believe they were minted in 1982 to celebrate his birth. They don't go for much in mint state, and yours has circulated so I think it is worth its weight in silver. What a nice find!

Neat find. Don't come across commemoratives very often.

nice find. I certainly would love to pull one of those from a roll! I missed out on a chance to buy about 20 of those in what appeared to be nice shape for melt a couple months ago -- didn't want to drive 45 minutes to go get them (Craigslist).

the coin is nice but I'm more impressed you had $5,000 worth of halves to go through

I agree with onejinx! The banks around me dont ever have boxes. I get one to four half dollar coins per month! I dont know how you guys find boxes or bags or have 5 thousand dollars to get them!

What I want to know is where do you get $5000 worth of halves, and what are you going to do with the rest of them? That is a lot of half dollars to deposit or exchange.

A friend of mine have a system. We order $10k of halves every week from bank (A) on Monday. I pick them up on Thursday and we split them $5000 each.

The bank charges us $5 a box to do this. So, my part of the fee is $50 every week.

We go through them - mostly for silver - I have begun looking at other things, so if you have any special tips of what I should be searching for, PLEASE speak up. I have heard 85's are somewhat rare.....etc...

After we pull silver, then he takes all the remaining coins to bank (B)'s commercial branch where they have a sweet coin counter and they give us cash back. I deposit the $$ back into bank (A) where I have my account and we start the process over.

So far, the silver production has been, in my opinion, very good. We have pulled Benny's and walking liberties from rolls. Also the coin that started this post.

Why is there a 5 dollar fee per box? The boxes are 500 dollars...not 505 dollars! I'm not trying to be a smartbutt....when I get a 25 dollar box of cents, the teller asks for 25 dollars. I think you need a new bank. But then again....my bank never has half dollars!

They did it for free for a while, but the way it was explained to me was that their carrier was charging them a per roll fee (.10 per roll of halves - thus $5.00 per box) since they did not normally order halves, the only way they would continue to do it wa if I was willing to pay the delivery fee. With the amount of Silver I have been pulling out of the last two runs - since they started charging - it has more than paid for itself.

As long as the silver mining continues to outweigh the cost from the bank, I'll continue to do it. YMMV...
