Thanks Thai-vic, I figured, if I want to get the coin graded, I would have to pay $25 anyways. Figured, I could get this coin for the price of grading + price of coin and save the trouble of sending it for grading. And also this is the only coin of this year that has been graded by PCGS so far, so I added a premium for that too.

There seems to be an upsurge of interest in Indian coins.
In the last month I've put a number of Hyderabad coins on ebay, all sold very well; but two in particular went really high.

A 2 Annas AH 1323, SWC Unc $12.50 sold for £16.50
And last weekend:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...TRK:MESOX:IT
Again SWC states $16.50 Unc.
Sure, I'm not complaining, but what's happening generally in the Indian market?

I am unsure of the POP report for MS-64 Red Anna. My guess, very low. It allways comes down to supply and demand.

I've got quite a number of these coins :) Over 60, mainly George.
I find the official grading of the coins quite bizarre! I had a look at the ended auctions and I've never seen so much verdigris in supposedly high graded coins.

They do!
Probably the wrong place to post this, but, how long are these 'official' gradings valid for?

Frankly, I am astonished and a bit confussed about what these people found so special in this coin.. This is rather a commonly available one that too in better conditions.

@Redwine : They are valid for as long as the third party grading company exists. Do you have any Pre 1900 1/4 annas in your batch of 60 ? :)

I think the graded populations of these coins remain low because not a lot of collectors in India send coins in for grading and grading is very much a American phenomenon. Most people have even heard of it outside of the America. But millions of these were minted, however not a lot were preserved unlike American coins due to a very few local collectors of Indian coins until the last decade or two.

@brokencompass: I do, most are pretty battered. I'll post one of the better ones for grading if I may.....and I'll have another look through them.

well yes but not how you are thinking think more like innocent hoarders. people in india have a culture of saving and coins are saved and forgooten. thats why all the prices you see are bubbles when these coins hit the market the prices will crash.

for post 2000 issues they have been hoarded by traders classic example veer durgadas

I don't believe in these catalogues or references any way! Iam sure the coin has something special that appealed to all those bidders.
