I love it! But remind him to have the teacher lock up his folder while they're at recess - I lost a 1913-S Wheat cent in 8th grade by NOT following my own advice.

Glad I dropped in to read this, little ones are precious and need love and guidance from us.Even at a young age they will remember the time dad was busy but he helped me with show and tell or whatever. My son now collects coins and we talk as we go over our collections together,he's 51yrs. old now and brings up "remember when".It always warms my heart when he does that. gasman96

Great story and hopefully he continues this hobby. Who knows, someday he may be showing you a thing or two about coins.

And that is really a shame with so many kids now days. They really don't understand that someday, and some sooner than others, all that will or could be theirs. And with little to no interest, probably all just sold to a dealer for a little over face value.

Interested in collecting? I couldn't get mine to cut the lawn. Now, even as grown men, they'd rather play "Tour of Duty version MCII.

Hi Everyone, well show and tell is today. I thought some of you would get a smile out of that story!

I'll ensure that they are secured...great advice!

My son will be three. His interest in coins is minimal, but he loves to collect, count, and stack them. He then hides them in boxes. So cute.

Until he plays hide and seek with a bunch of world silver coins Been there, done that!

Gasman, I admire your guidance and hope that I will have the same cherished memories too! My collection is now three generations old and intend to pass it onto my two children. My oldest {1st grade daughter aka little miss can't be wrong} started collecting Sacagawea dollars complements of the "Tooth Fairy"! She loves them and the history behind the coin too.

I love all the other coments too! Hope everyone enjoyed it.

Regards, DFPS

Well, he only gets to play with my change for now. It will probably be a long time before I show him my collection.

Well the Show-N-Tell was a grand success! I guess when he pulled out that blue folder packed with dimes and announced this was HIS coin collection he had the undivided attention of the entire class! Everyone oohed and aahed. The teacher said she had never seen such a reaction for such an item and this was the first time anyone had brought in coins in her twenty some odd years of teaching!

HHMMMM, sounds like an openinig for a coin collector to give some talks to that class on coins. You may become a star to those kids.

Great story. I love to get kids interested in coin collecting. If it means giving some coins and supplies away, so be it ;-)

Just got back another memory, when I was in grammar school we were given small cards to fill with dimes for banking.Every week momma would give me a dime, which I worked for, to put in that card and then when it was full the teacher (I think)would put it in my savings account.
I do not remember whatever happened to the savings account, now that I though about it,kinda funny, maybe the account is in the not collected file somewhere,I do know the bank went out of business in the 50's and momma's been gone to heaven. Can't help but wonder what those dimes were.gasman96
