This is the best I can do on color (It has LED's that can be adjusted). As far as between the two I have not been able to get that to work yet.. Focus is an issue!

Pics look good.If you should send it back depends on what you paid for it. What brand is it? I say play around with it for awhile and if you just don't like it then send it back, IMHO.

You can probably do as well with a regular camera on macro but if you are having fun with your new purchase then keep it..

Here is a hand held pic of some doubling on an ATB Quarter that I just quickly shot with my pocket Canon SD790:

Is this one of those $47 jobs from ebay? I've been thinking of getting one, not just for coins, but for other stuff. Where's the pics? I don't see them!

Hi jeffreyice1, I like your efforts with this. Would you please try to make a better image of the steps on the back of a nickel.
I think you are using a 400X 1.3 Mega Pixels 8-LED USB Digital Microscope
of which I have found on the internet at around $45.00 shipped.
I am thinking of buying one myself. Can you get the whole coin in an image? Or is it too close at the lowest setting? Thanks!

Ooooooooooo I see these are mainly coming from China or Hong Kong. I don't buy from there?

A collector I know has one of these and he made a plastic ring that hooks on where the led's are and it helps to diffuse the light so you don't have large areas of glare on the coin. I don't know what he used but I am sure you can find different things around your house that may work

Ok here is my update!

1) The stand (Holder) it comes with sucks as it is too close to the coin from a top down.
2) I found my stand for soldering from radio shack and moved it over to that for the following pic! (4 inches away and low zoom)
3) Seems that you can only get from 20-40X to 300-400X on focus wheel. (Still working on this with distance)
4) You don't have to get it from China or Hong Kong. The UK Company that owns it will get it to you but at a price of $99

For the easy use and lighting I would give this a 9 out of 10 but for the stand and the focus issue I would have to give that a 3 out of 10.

I've been trying to figure out what to set mine on to get a picture of a whole coin. I had used two books with limited success. I need some type of stand.
