I would go to the bank and get dimes. Return the coins and sell any silver that I find and add it to the pot. $75 is plenty to go through dimes. I find about 2 in each box($250) So you should find 2 silvers in 4 turnovers. It will be slow but is is what it is.

You are probably going to need an account. Go to a bank that has a coin machine. Open an account. Put in your $75. Get $70 in dimes, return the non silver into the coin machine and get more dimes.

Monkeyman, that's pretty much in direct violation of the basic tenets of roll searching and is an easy way to anger that branch. I'd HIGHLY advise not doing that.

Correct. You should never return the coins where you got them, or you will end up searching the same coins over and over again.

First thing's first. Ask your bank how they would like your loose coins. "MY" bank asked me NOT to roll ANYTHING !
They said they wanted them loose, so that they could put them in the coin counter machine, and if they were all rolled, I'd have to wait while they opened each and every roll to count them.

So, I just bring "containers" full of the loose coins to them to "dump"......they run them through their coin counter, then I take the cash and hit some other banks to get some more coins.

ive searched 4 boxes of halves.
Total yield: no silver and 1 proof and 0 NIFC
customer rolls of halves
total yield: 2 90%, 50 40%, 20 proofs (included in this is 7 silver 90% proofs and 3 40% proofs), 1987 p and d, and 1970d.

Customer rolls have a better percentage but it is still a low percentage.

I have actually had good luck with boxes of halves. In five months of searching, I have found many 40% halves and some 90% (even Walking Liberty halves!).

I have never gotten any CWR, but one time I walked into the bank and the guy said "A customer brought these in today, do you want them?". Turns out I got 4 40%ers for $2.00!

As far as dimes go, I usually average about one silver dime per $250 box. IMO, halves give the best silver returns.

Of course, I am probably jinxing myself by saying this considering I have a box of halves waiting to be searched when I get out of the office today, so I'll knock on wood and hope I get some keepers tonight!

I think it is different for each branch. I bring my junk coins back after they have been searched, dump them in the coin machine, and they get sent all over the US. The bank already told me they order new coins, rather than reuse coins people bring in.

As to the OP, maybe look into a credit card instead of a loan? Just be very very careful. I know my parents don't have to pay much interest (if any) if they can pay off the card the same month they used it. Many will look at this as bad advice, but if you are cautious, careful, and wise with a credit card, it can be a great tool. My parents are a great example of this. They use cards for a lot of big purchases, have great credit, and will retire with a nice savings account to fall back on.

I'm not sure if taking a loan out for this would be worthwhile? From what I've seen on roll hunting is:

-TCF has free coinstar exchange= no loss on exchanging, and has an account minimum of $10 in the checking account.

- Me personally, I don't use TCF because they hacked my account as well as many family members some time ago (paid another members fee's/overdrafts/withdrawl's from my account because his name was Mike also, NOT EVEN THE SAME LAST NAME@!!), but I have several locations of the same bank and I utilize them. Take from here, return to the other/etc.. You get the point.

-Be extremely polite to the teller/try to find 1 single teller and build a relationship with her (I say her because the girls are more inclined to actually help you out, IMHO anyways). Don't go to the bank when they are very busy, they are already frustrated dealing with other customers and do not want to give any extra effort to help you, especially if they know what your doing.

-There's nothing wrong with starting low, as in under $50 each time, Yes obviously the more your buying the better chances you are of finding something. Although I've gotten 10 rolls of Nickels once and ended up getting an 09-S Proof, 1 roll was entirely compromised of 1938-195x (forgot what it went to, but all were older). On the other hand I've gotten entire boxes of stuff and resulted in absolutely nothing. It's just the luck of the draw. Basically you can still do well if your broke.

-------The comment about not saving everything you like, HUGEEEEE advice that you should definitely follow! I loved 80% of the stuff I was getting and set it aside, until my area was overflowing. To the point where I just stopped and realized it, just keep it to a maintained system and stay organized. Know ahead of time what you want to keep/save/etc.. and get rid of the rest. GL

Just Google tips/help and you'll find a large amount of information on this too. + CCF is amazing, these guys are so incredibly helpful

I disagree that dumping into the machine is a violation. I go to TD bank and they could care less. If I had to return the coins to the teller, either rolled or unrolled, that is a violation. I think the machine is fair game.

I had asked my dump bank what happens to the coins from the lobby counting machine. she told me they are sent to the Richmond reserve and the coins they order come from Hotlanta. they have 2 different subcontractors for the coins ordered and then one for coin counter itself so I do buy from my dump bank but not all the time. The OP asked about low budget I end up picking up rolls from the gas station/grocery store /drug store or anywhere I get over 50 cents for change I just ask for a roll of pennies instead of 2 quarters I may not have the volume but it keeps me looking matter of fact my roll of 2009 LP1s came from Wendys

That is smart YOTIE I think I will try that. But I will be sure not to dump them back at the gas station.
