Quote: Another thing is whether or not collectors will want less than BU coins any time in the next 50 years or so...I'd have to say not.
I'll let you know then if your right.

In hand sorting, the LP4's finally came back around from change jars and I have been finding them, finally! For awhile I thought they were mostly hoarded.
I don't find many of the 2009 graded for sale, their are 20 different cents from this year to collect, some with mintages as low as the 1931S, and a few good complete graded sets of these would be really nice to have.
Where to buy?

I have pulled 1 (that's one) LP4 P from circulation. Of course I have my rolls but they are indeed not out there (or rather here)

I've never pulled an LP4 from circulation or roll hunting. I've only pulled one or two LP3. I have half a tube of LP1 and about half a dozen of those minor LP1 DDRs.

I have several of each from circulation, mostly P's I guess. I just throw them in an open cent box. I think that it is about half full. Sometime I will go through them for doubles. I have about two boxes each of the P's from all four of the first day ceremonies. It was alot of driving and alot of fun.

While I do believe that the quantities minted of the modern coinage is huge enough to prevent rarity, I do believe that where you live and the distribution pattern of '09 pennies will create rarities by location. The western states will see more Denver coins that Philadelphia, and vice versa for the eastern states. The total mintage for lp4 is actually quite low, less than half of the mintage of any other version of the '09 penny.
As I search the rolls in SW Fl I'm only coming accross maybe 1 or 2 2009 penny per roll. I've only come accross less than 600 such pennies out of 68 boxes of pennies, with lp4 being the least found penny from either mint. Most of the ones that I have found come from Philadelphia.
I saw a thread somewhere that broke down the geographic distribution of these coins. LP4 was supposedly heavily distributed in Puerto Rico and the Midwest. Further I would not be surprised to learn that there are a lot of these coins still in FRB vaults somewhere.
As an aside the 2009 penny, nickel, and dime have supposedly suffered from low mintage due to economic conditions. That and the probability of significant quantities still in the FRB vaults all add up to the possibility that 2009 common minted coins are not at all well distributed in circulating coins.
If I was a gambling person I would squirrel away all the 2009 coins that I found as I find them. I'm doing that right now with both the pennies and nickels.

I just picked up three mint rolls of 2009's from the coin shop today. An LP1(D), LP2(P), and LP3(D). The price was $5 bucks for all three. Even if they're not worth anything in my lifetime, I figured it would be cool for my son to crack them open a few decades from now and see them. Maybe he can make a buck or two off of them.

If you look on ebay, the LP4's are the ones that go for the big $$$. Especially the mint rolls.

I keep all LP1s and LP4s that I come across, and only BU examples of LP2 and LP3. Any Ds of the 4 designs (BU or circulated) I keep. That being said, I've only found one LP4 so far, and I am in SE Florida.

And he's probably right.
One major factor people seem to forget however is that this advice is from an investment standpoint. They're as collectible as you want them to be... However, Iut of a couple hundred I have found only 1 2009 LP4 D. Maybe I've boarded too many of the others :0 sorry! Btw, I've been doing the same to the new 2005 American bison nickels...
Happy Hunting:)

I think a lot of the 2009 Lincoln cents have been hoarded. Back them I ran across several banks with rolls and picked up quite a few of all of the series, D mint. Around that time is when I joined the forum and was giving away a bunch of the coins and made quite a few friends that way. The 2009 Lincoln series will always have a special place for me!

The LP4's that remained in the warehouses are probably just starting to get out into circulation.
