Yes, I agree with $100 per roll. You almost have to assume $3 a coin retail and you're buying wholesale. At least you won't insult him and have a little room to go up if necessary.

In my experience proof rolls are subpar, lower grade coins. There's a reason they're in a roll. Sometimes they are impared from banging together too. In a roll, they sell at a discount everytime...I've never seen an exception. I can't recall if these are in CDN either....at work so I can't look. My gut would be $1.50-2.00 max per coin. So, $75 would be a good deal and $100 would be on the high-end. IMO, $80 would be a fair offer.

Actually I know where these came from - straight out of fresh sets. And the reason they are in rolls is because the people selling them to me don't deal in cents. They got the sets for the quarters and dollars. I could probably have the nickels at a big discount too...but am not sure I'm interested in those. I despise nickels.

Well, if they are nice coins as you say, then $100 a roll is a great deal. If they average Proof-65 then I would happily to pay $150 a roll all day long! I think your proposed offer of $100 per roll is a fair one that shouldn't insult the seller. Good luck!

That too is the first thing I thought of but as you said, you know where they came from. I'd still be cautious on this one. Reason is do you know how they were handled? Do you know if they are now scrated from being put into a roll? Complete roll? Or how many in that roll?
I'm a little on the pessimistic side when it comes to buying something sight unseen. I too would say $75 to $100 and only if you think you could turn them around easily. IF, and a big IF, you could turn them around easily, account for the 2x2's or whatever you put them in, make a decent profit, trust the person your buying them from, then maybe.

Lemme put it this way...

I worked for the company that is selling these to me. I know exactly how they handle coins. I know these coins are going to be int he same condition they were in when they came out of the sets, and I know they are handled with care.

BTW...Chugly - "average" for proof coins coming out of the sets should be closer to PR67-PR68...not PR65. PR69 commands some premium, and PR70 is a higher dollar coin. A PR65 is actually a low grade coin for new proofs coming directly out of the sets.

Thanks for the correction Coppercoins. I don't deal with "modern" proofs much so please excuse my ignorance. Good luck on this purchase no matter what.

I have a feeling you already know the answer to this one as well.

You know the product, you know the seller, you know the market...hence you know the answer!

What was the first number that popped into your mind? That's probably it.

In todays market "subpar" is PF-68.

I was thinking that current year would be running retail around $3 -$4 per coin. Wholesale about 70% of that or $2.10 - $2.80 per coin or between $105 and $140 per roll. I'd see if he would bite somewhere close to the lower end of that range. Which is about what you can up with as well. If it was late in the year I would be tempted to go lower because they are at their most marketable while they are still current. Next year everyone would be chasing 2012 coins and 2011 coins would have a lower demand.

That would be a good deal for a P-D-S set for $5...

Since you're sure the coins aren't impared Chuck, I agree with Conder. You're not a collector and I imagine you just want to resell them. IMO, you should obtain wholesale pricing as would any dealer.

Conder - Yes, 68 is low... until the fields become bag marked. I've seen it on many proof rolls. Perhaps Chuck's source has these in individual holders and "roll" is a euphemism. That would add a premium.

Nope...they'll be packed in tubes. Same way I got my 2010-S rolls...and those coins were fine.

I've offered $100 per roll and will see what happens from there. I'm pretty sure he'll send them at that and will include the shipping.

Sounds fair to me. Hey, you probably consult/advise the seller on occassion so a good deal is order.

I'll know in a week or so. With all the other business we have going on, this is pretty low priority.
