Interesting bizy, any pics of those coins? I am not sure Vinny, buy you all are right, a bit tough to see for failing eyes, as I wear glasses, and feel I need one of those eye pieces the pawn guy uses to look at them, lol.... I buy them, because I am real small time bottom of the barrel server/bartender, and even though I do work at very nice place, in up scale area on river, after bills an what not, not much left to invest, just money I make on ebay sells from time to time. So I do what I can, get a small piece here an there as I can afford 40 or 50 faster, than 100 to 200. Never smaller than 3/4 a gram however. Here is a good view of three of them Vinny below.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...TRK:MEWNX:IT

@ Silverhawk74: that is on my to do list, to sharpen my photo skills and get some decent pictures onto the forum. It's coming I assure you!
I really like the mintages on the mintmarked unc fractionals, for the $5, all under 25,000 pieces, while the lowest bullion mintage is something like 150,000. I think the unc $5 AGEs will be collected by date someday, if they aren't already, so the four Ws are poised to become keys and semi-keys. Not a real big fan of the proof versions since the mintages are 40,000 and up, although they are pretty.
The next project I intend to start is the 12 coin set of the proof platinums either in the tenths or quarter size, hope to accumulate one coin every other month, and platinum relative to gold seems really a good deal right now at $1700-1800/oz.

Quote: wow 3/4 gram? never knew they minted a coin in that size! how in the world did they scribe a design that small? Take a look at your avatar...it's .8 gram (only 6.7% larger)

I just looked at a handful of coins including two little boxes from the Hamilton (?) Mint.
Each contained a copy of a 1908 Saint, 24K, .2 dwt (.3 gr), or .01 oz. Looked like they'd fit next to each other on a dime.

Well with gold going up huge this Friday, I think I did pretty well on adding another Liberia 3/4 gram gold coin, via Alexander the great for 45 total. The guy took a bad picture, and did not have the coins listed by name, so I contacted him to find out which ones he had, and Alexander the great is a must have for my set. Only 7 positive feed backs, so a gamble, but it does come with COA, and coin case, and who would waste their time forging those small fellas, so seems safe enough to me, for just 45....
I now have in this series as follows.... 1.Columbus 2.Napoleon 3.Joan of Arc 4.Peter the Great 5.Charles Lindbergh 6.Julius Caesar 7.Nefertiti 8.Alexander the Great
I now have 12.14 grams of gold, and now plan to save a bit and get a 1/10th of an oz next, which would get me real close to a half oz of 24k gold....

Thanks Junior e and Coin chaser appreciate the kind words! It is fun part of the hobby for me anyway, to try to put together sets, as I am working on Australian lunar silver set of 12 as well, and have 8 so far....
I do like that the prices for these 3/4 has not gone up, even though gold has been sky rocketing....
I am actually going to take your advice Coin chaser, and switch to the 1/10 gold eagle next. Only reason I have not thus far has been lack of cash funds, but we are getting into our busy season so I am making good money again, at least on nice and sunny weekends anyhow. And there is like 5 or 6 real nice 1/10th eagles at my local coin shop, and I can still get them for about 190. Of Course that will not last long, as it will not be long, until it is impossible to find a 1/10 gold eagle short of 200 bucks....

Quote: I'm curious. What would constitute a "real" reason, in your opinion? Sounds like what other investors call "due diligence". Buy gold because you thought things through and found it to be a better thing to buy than the alternatives, whatever they may be, not just because "everybody's doing it".

ED B, Originally in this thread I wrote concerning frenzy buying and some of the overpriced offers that were cropping up on the net. A prudent man would evaluate the value of a purchase if he was buying as a hedge against inflation. A collector looks, sees what he wants or likes and buys it for his collection. Both these men are winners as their desire is satisfied. One knows the value of the interms money and the other interms of a collection. They both had a real reason for buying.

CoinChaser... I see... buying vs. simply throwing money at it. As a long-term buyer who buys in small amounts but at reasonably regular intervals, price is not something that I focus on. If it is lower than I thought, I can buy a little more or a little less if it is not. I figure that over a 15-20 year period, it will pretty well average out. Works for me.

Well Alexander the great showed up and it is as real gem. Really like these little guys, great detail on small scale.... I have 3 that are minus COA and the neat little round plastic capsule with the little four plastic bars which hold the coin in place.... Does anyone know where I could buy some of these small 3/4 gram plastic capsules, as I can't find them on ebay?
