If it's xf or better, you're OK. Not real likely, but certainly possible.

Well first off, congrats, every collector should get themselves a capped bust half. Looking forward to seeing what you got.

As far as getting the coin graded, I will do so based on the observations of the experts here in this forum. If its possible the coin has significant value, I will definitely have it graded and slabbed to preserve it. Then again, I could have made a mistake and agreed to purchase a coin that isn't worth $200. We'll all see soon enough. I'm mentally prepaired for the worst possible outcome. If it turns out I've overpaid for a coin, then no big deal. My son will someday inherit this coin amoung many others. By that time I'm sure it will be of little matter if ol' dad over paid for it way back when....

Your coin is the large letters variety and looks like an EF-40 to me so you did not overpay for this coin. ANA LM-3175

I'm thinking Vf-looks like it may have been cleaned in the past, as many were.

It looks VF+ to me and cleaned but not harshly cleaned. It could even go VF35 or so. If the $200 went to a good cause, leave it at that. No slabbing is justified here.

Yeah ... I agree this is a nice outcome. In time I do believe your purchase will still appreciate enough to have been a decent investment. That one has a really nice case of eye appeal. It would fly out of any showcase. Right now it is a fair enough deal anyways. Your friend got some help, you got a nice half.

I wouldn't be disappointed with that purchase. You paid about what you should have. The eye appeal is outstanding for the grade, cleaned or not. Good pickup!
