Hi Mark,
You do not have an original box but you do have one of our rarest coins. It has doubled in value in the last year and is now worth around $2,000 AUD. Look after it as I suspect it will be worth a lot more over the next few years.

all of which raises an interesting question:
who minted the goose "dollars" ?
Was it John Pinces of London ? I've not heard of him/them/it before ...
I normally have no interest in NCLT, but I agree that the "goose" is a very special item, even to a cynic like me.

The I967 Unofficial Pattern Crown nicknamed the "Goose dollar" by collectors. It was engraved and struck by John Pinches medalists of London. Design by Andor Meszaros.
There were 1500 specimen Uncirculated silver coins issued that featured a milled edge, 750 proof pieces with a plain edge and 10 gold with the plain edge. It is believed 2 of the gold coins were lost in the Ash Wednesday fires in 1983 (John Gartner collection) so it could be said that there are only 8 in existence. All coins were originally issued in a maroon colored case inscribed with "Australian Pattern Crown" inside the lid and in the case for the proofs, the word "proof" was added.

The geese haven't faired well over time living in their boxes without protection with the potential for fingerprints, soiling and toning. PCGS are yet to recognise these and grade them but some have been graded and are now protected in NGC slabs. MS63 x 1, MS64 x 1, MS65 x 1, MS66 x 3, MS67 x 2 for the unc pattern crowns and MS63 x 3, MS64 x 1, MS66 x 1 in proof The one in the blog article was purchased (no box) on ebay for $457 in 2007 and now lives in an airtite capsule, the prices have sure screamed ahead since them. Hmmm I don't think that you can get them slabbed anywhere in Australia. Most people send them to the US to get them done. But if you looking to get them protected, you could get them put into some sort of coin capsule? Well it's up to you and what you would like. Anyway it might be best to take them to Downies, they would know what to do with it.

Slabbing prices start at $30 just with postage and go as high as $150. but a dealer might get a better price when doing them in bulk.
Let us know how much Downies will charge to slab you coins.

PCGS don't slab these geese dollars. Your options are finding someone who submits coins to NGC and get it slabbed that way, this is the most expensive option but best in the long term. Don't get caught with any other slabbing service, these 2 are the mainstream. Another would be getting a coin capsule that is the correct size for each coin. Too big and the coin moves which can cause damage. My goose is in an airtite with foam ring: http://www.australian-threepence.co...holders.html but I think you'd have to get a couple of these sent from the US. Short short term I'd get it out of the box with gloves so it's not exposed to the environment and potential fingerprints. My preference would be a Saflip as opposed to a cardboard 2x2.
