PNC bank will sell you rolls or boxes of cents, nickels, dimes, or quarters without an account in my area. They aren't fed rolls though they are in the plastic rolls. Commerica bank also does it but it is hard to get a full box, you can usually buy fed wrapped rolls from the teller has left, they won't order or go to the vault unless you have an account.

HoosierDaddy: I've contacted several Chase locations, Politely they told me they would not give me boxes unless I had an account with them. I've only found 2 large banks who will give me boxes of coin without an account:
Wells Fargo & Frost Bank.
Both of which get their coin through Brinks.
It took me several months but I finally found a bank that get's their boxes directly from the federal reserve. Unfortunately for most of you on the Forum it is a small Local Credit Union.

BofA and Wells Fargo have given me boxes without question. Most of the one's I've been too have merchant services so they usually deal with a lot of coins.

i have gotten rolls without bank accounts but asking for a box seems kinda rude without an account
thats 50 rolls!
i have been questioned and I have been greeted with open arms from different bank tellers
some could care a less and others just seem mean (might just be them following policy)
dont think there is a bank without that policy you need a bank account to use the services just depends on the tellers and if its worth the fight to them
asking for a crazy chunk of change would probably make them more prone to following the rules though

several will, the ones that come to the top of my head right now are Wells Fargo and First Interstate.
you can get smaller quantities from BofA and USbank.

I think the real question may be "where to dump coins without an account?" I still have a hard time with that one. I usually use rolls to buy trivial things around town. A soda here, a few dollars gas there.

Eric273, you should have an account. If you're a minor, understand, that's no problem. Every one of these major banks have "junior savings accounts," or, some such things, designed, especially, for minors. They're custodial accounts, meaning, a parent must go on the account, too, and, all you can do is deposit (you can't withdraw; only the parent can withdraw). They cost like $10 to open, and that goes as your initial deposit. Just have a parent call around for you, and you'll find one you like. Then, open the account, and they should help you.

You really should have a few bank accouts. Regardless of the amount, a bank account is sort of like a credit card. If you go to buy something, having a bank account, credit cards, etc. sometimes comes in really handy. It is really no ones buisness how much you have in a bank account and they really don't have a way to find out, unlike a credit card where they can check on your present and past. Open several of the lowest allowed accounts in several banks. Then if and when you want to dump bulk coins, they almost always will take them and enter the amount into your account. If you need money, just wait one day and take it back out. |

I never have had luck with Wells Fargo.
I used to go back and forth between a credit union and Bank of America, but then the credit union got weird about it one day and said I had to have an account. I really think it depends on which teller you visit; some play by their rules and others don't really care.
I now go to Bank of America about once a week. If they say, "Would you like to pay with your checking account?" I just say, "I'll just pay cash."
If they ask what I use the coins for I tell them the truth: I'm a coin collector. Hopefully I get lucky and they tell me they have some dollar coins!
