The symbolic $50 price point is still an obstacle at the moment.

It looks like today, this is going to be broken at any moment. Only a few cents to go ! .....

I Plan on putting my Junk silver on ebay this weekend and buying me a 1914-D Lincoln.

Thanks Jbuck - I have been wrestling with the idea for a week or so. I figure I will be kicking my sell if Silver drops significantly and if Silver goes up - I still have plenty of Silver thats not "Junk".

I must admit, that if Silver reaches much higher than $50.00 an oz., I may consider parting with some "duplicate" Silver State Qtrs., and other coins...... HECK ! ...... if it gets high enough, I might even sell ALL of my Silver State Qtrs ! Right out of my Dansco ! .....

A better trade off ? ..... selling Silver State Qtrs for a 1914 D ?
Or ALWAYS having an empty hole for the 1914 D and watching Silver plummet someday, and/or the interest and value in St. Qtrs., is just ignored by everyone.
Dunno....I DO like my silver st. qtrs.......but a '14 D would be AMAZING !

I've kinda got hooked on selling Silver to buy Copper/Nickel keys and/or semi-keys, and even lots of BU coins. (at least they would HOLD their value... historically for the most part !).... (Whereas Silver may NOT !)
Speculation with what Silver may or may not do is a very popular thing to do right now......but I just look at the historical roller coaster ride and see what I need to see.
The safer bet is the more Classic or Modern/Classic materials.

One could have regret no matter if you sold it at the wrong time......or held it forever not taking advantage of the times.

And speaking of the 1914 D......yeah, I nearly bought one a few weeks ago, during one "Silver selling spree". I'm still SO VERY TEMPTED to do so !

But now, I'm about out of "junk silver", and it would have to be "Proof Gold" or "Proof Silver" stuff that I have left.
"And" the wife may have an opinion or two about spending that kind of money on a coin....

Of course, I would not actually 'sell' the silver. I trade it with a dealer for the 1914-D, which is what I did to get some Franklin half dollars I needed.

I think we'll see that trend for another week or two before it makes the push for 50+ . Hopefully I'll be able to grab a little more.

Then again....

I traded some 90% circulated silver for a nice 1917 Lincoln. Could not be happier.

Could be weeks. The big silver shorters will do all they can to keep it under $50 for as long as possible, but the support level's incredibly strong at $43. Silver could ping-pong from $43 to $48 for a while...

Based on the P&F chart, I'm guessing that we will shoot all the way down to $36 before popping back up.*

If the market is not being tampered with, we should see a silver price that is about 1:17 with gold. That is the approximate ratio of silver to gold in the Earth's crust.

That ratio would only be correct if ag and au were 100% interchangeable.

Would it? Seems to me that silver is MUCH more useful than gold. About all that gold has going for it is that it resists oxidation and silver doesn't. Shrug.

When dealers made tons of money in 79-80, they put a good bit of it back into inventory. 50d bu nickel rolls went from around 250-400.

Others bought other businesses, or bought buildings (or even shopping centers) to put their coin shops in without ever having to worry about getting evicted.
