Yes, the 20c and the medallion do look quite similar. The medallion has a boarder around it, and no currency value stamped on it from the pic.

It's probably the only 'Official' portrait of them to be approved for use in Australia on either coins or Medallions.
The Medallion has been designed and produced by the Royal Australian Mint exclusively for the Herald Sun, therefore it will be distributed to our local outlets in Victoria, Riverina and Tasmania only.
It kinda reminds me a bit of Sonny & Cher.

"kinda reminds me a bit of Sonny & Cher" - more like Janis Joplin & any of the BeeGees. Has portraiture reached a new low ?

I will be glad when the wedding circus is over, good luck to the couple but I am so over it, everything on tv in Australia is about the "wedding of the century". Coin and medallion are better than the fugly Queen Mother coin released by RAM

make the most of it, I say: I talked a friend into hosting a wedding party. A handful of Republicans are invited, so that we can point to The Red Witch enjoying herself, at our expense. I enjoy weddings ... as long as they are for other people.

The RAM actually made those medals? What were they thinking? IMO, the design and size of the medal at 27mm are just too close to the design and size of the real 20 cent. Even assuming the other side has an advertisement for the "Herald Sun", I predict people are going to be finding these things in circulation.

I'm not familiar with metals terminology. "aureate plated ferro metal cored" What does this mean?

Steel core (so it sticks to a magnet), but plated with something goldy-brassy coloured.

I will get this free medallion tomorrow with the Sun Herald and then take it to the Royal Australian Mint to get it authenticised when I go ther in May. I hope this medallian is not falsely advertised as being produced by RAM and worst distributed by them but made in China Looking forward to receiving the medallian tomorrow for my assesment

I got mine this morning. Newspapers sold out by 10am in Sale. You could still get coins without newspaper, I traded my token twice :) Happy I made a pre order.
