If you are using a single light source for your pictures, this has to be a doubled die and a very nice one at that!

Sometimes, taking pictures using two light sources (or one light and background natural lighting) can give the illusion of doubling, but I don't think this is the case with your coin! The split serf's just look too good.

I sure hope I'm right as this would be a great discovery for a 2010 cent! Good work and thanks for posting.

Thanks for all the replies. I am using two lights sources. One at 12 oclock and one at 10 oclock. I can see if it turns up with one light source. I was not aware that 2 lights sources can have that effect. Thanks for that info.

Can you post pics with only one light source?

Can you see it with a loupe or does it show up only when you use a camera?

Well here are some pics with just one light source. I think the lights where making something out of nothing. I didn't see anything under the loupe, but I need one just to see the date. Eyes are getting bad.

It would be unusual for a doubled die to be on the edge of the single squeeze process. But its not. The shield design is a dud for doubled dies so far. I keep hoping something will be found, but so far nada.

The shields are getting rather boring but I can't stop looking.

Those pics are awesome!

I was pretty certain I was seeing an aberration of using more than one light source, which is why I inquired to the same in my previous post.

This becomes a very good lesson to those reading this thread regarding lighting sources used in microphotography. One single diffused source at a high angle to the coin and optics is the correct arrangement to use. Anything else can be confusing and cost time and effort (and could cost money too).

It certainly is a good lesson. Thank you for picking that out Coppercoins. Now I understand why you recommend using only one light source.

Yes...a very good lesson...the first thing that came to mind after he revealed the lighting was that he could have sold the coin on ebay if he were a scam artist.

That certainly is true Maineman. It makes this lesson even more important and educational.

Thanks everyone for your input. Although it turned out to be nothing I am glad I posted it. At least I learned a little about how lights can distort things. Something to keep an eye out for.

In a class room when one student asks a question all in the class room benefit from the answer, just not the one student.
