Have You Ever Found A "Strike It Rich" Coin?

I've found 5 1971D halves struck on quarter stock and an 1892S Barber half roll searching along with a several 1974D DDO which regardless of what the price guides say they are worth don;t even sell for $10 on ebay because the market is flooded from all of the other roll hunters trying to sell them off.

I've also found a 1945 DDR, 1943/2 P, and a 1943P DDO Jeffersons.

This is a fun topic! I'd say recently I picked up a few rolls of silver quarters in Mint State and found a 1950 D/S and a 1943 DDO-011. I was surprised and very happy about the 43' to say the least

I have found two 'strike it rich coins',
but neither of them were U.S. modern coins.

The first:
an 1853 U.S. gold dollar, bought for GB one pound 50 pence, at a coin show in Manchester, way back in 1971;

the second:
a tetradrachm of Ptolemy 12th, struck in about 50BC. This coin came from a junk box, and all of the details were heavily encrusted so as to not be visible.
A professional coin dealer friend of mine put this coin in acid and removed all of the crud, but none of the details,
to reveal a very nice silver coin in VF condition, that is over 2,000 years old.

It pays to keep your eyes wide open to the entire field of the whole of numisamtics.

I have found several decent coins, but I think the best was a can of coins from a garage sale for $20 that were welded together in a dried black tar like goop had several pre 190o coins from large 1871 and 1/2 cents, 3 cent silver, IHC and a Shield nickel 1879 or 1880, in xf to au cond. Dealer paid me over $300. for it.

Not rich by any means, but just went to an estate sale and bought 1984-2011 proof AND uncirculated sets (with the 1992 proof set being silver) for $100. I don't know why she wanted that low amount, since just the face value of the coins comes to about $210. :D

I sold one ddr-004 homestead quarter for $200 on ebay but the price has dropped out. I have found many RPM ' s , a couple rotated dies, 1 decent Cud I will post about today. I did get to discover the ddr-004 and I am very happy I was the first on that one. But still not rich yet. But one day haha

My biggest strike was when I used to search $1000 in halves every week. The last box I did, found 10 oz. of 40% halves. I used to search allot of pennies, many that I found have increased in value, not really a strike it rich thing, just an observance. My biggest strike was probably 1/3 oz. of some nuggets gifted to me.
