I think we are mere caretakers of the coins while we have them in out possession not that we own them because they will surely last longer than we do

I'd like to agree - I'm looking after them so that someone else can enjoy them. But while I'm "looking after them", no one better come near them!

I have quite a few ancient coins, the oldest around 2,400 years old. These golden oldies probably changed hands on a weekly basis or less when current as money, and at least once per generation since they were used as money. Since 2,400 years ago, there has probably been around 70 generations of human existence.
With this paradigm as a background, I must be considered as a custodian, with the responsibility of keeping these minute pieces of a bygone culture preserved. That is what 70 or so generations have done before me.

sel_69l: That's pretty much exactly how I feel. Especially about my ancient coins. Sure, I love holding them now, but I know that I'm just one in a long line, and they will hopefully continue to be enjoyed after I'm gone.

We are but temporary custodians. Like the earth, all materials will eventually be returned.
