It coild be due to they way they were stored. the packaging is NOT TAMPERED WITH.I do not know why the dime did not tone. If you look at the reverse the toning starts about 1/4 of the way up from the Franklin. It looks like only the top 2 silver coins toned and the bottom "dime" did not.I don't know. anyone else have a opinion ?

It very well could have been AT'd inside the packaging. Coin doctors figured out how to AT coins while inside PCGS holders, so they probably could figure out something. Very, very cool nonetheless.

The only thing I can say is, I bought them because they popped out at me and I really liked them.I thought that was the main reason we buy these things.
The bottom line is IF they turn out to be somehow at the worst case is I'm out a whopping $14.00...OOOPS THAT'S WHAT A 62 PROOF SET GOES FOR ANYWAY
HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.............

I would have bought it, (at the right price)and it appears that you did. However, the set could have been AT while intact. That is definitly not a natural color. I have some absolutley outstanding toned coins that are AT, and I still like them. Here is one I am not sure of:Check-Out-The-Toned-Proof-Set-I-Picked-Up-Today-!

I think they are pretty cool! I am no expert on AT, but as long as you like them, CONGRATS!

Something does look wrong. Take a look at the quarter dollar and half dollar. For some unusual reason, a side of both faces are left untoned for both of them. And why would the dime be left untoned?

Think about it - there have been some mad story of how a person was able to "crack" a slab out and made it artifically tone, only to resell it back on the market. Such plastic sheets are much easier to deal with, as long as you have the right sort of plastic and heat sealer.

For what you paid for it...who cares? If you think it's pretty...great. Just keep in mind, when reselling it, it's unlikely any dealer will pay anywhere near as much as you did for it. Most dealers will express the same doubts as everyone else here. If I were to see this as part of a lot/estate I was buying from a customer, I probably wouldn't offer much, if anything, above melt.

I was thinking more along the lines of injecting some type of gas into it with a very fine syringe. Wouldn't be hard right on the seam and would be pretty undetectable.

I have a friend that used to live near a glass factory. He could leave a silver coin on his window sill for a few days and the gas by-products in the air from the factory would beautifully tone them.

Nothing is truly air-tight, no matter how it is sealed. I bet that if you exposed that sealed package to the correct AT agent for a long enough period of time you could get results.

I'm not much into modern coins even thought I have a large collection....But that toning looks like paint to me...paint sprayed/passed over on these coins. All having the same toning color is a fishy thing to me.

That's my first impression.

Another thing that I noticed is that it seems the plastic cover above the quarter (in the first pic) in the middle has been tampered with..like it was opened then glued back later. Try this..hold them in front of a lit light bulb...see if you notice anithing strange..like maybe places around th fishy toned coins..like darker areas I mean.

ooops..sorry..i meant the hald dollar. You know not many openings needs to be made here..just one..above the half dollar...then one can slide the other two in..then glue afterward that opening.
