No, big pictures are good. I was referring to the huge multi-colored fonts in your ebay listing.

Coop, is this a true adjustment strike? (I'm not picking on you, you just seem to be up on these)

scuba,

NOTED! I'll change up the style on my ebay items. Thanks for letting me know. I'm new to selling on ebay so I'm glad to get your input. No more yelling... cut out the colors... got it! Here I thought I was being all stylish and stuff. My next listing will be much more low key. If fact, I can change the one's I have out there now.

THANKS,
Ben

congrats on the sale. Curious, was this a circulation find or did you get it somewhere else?

I bought it as an adjustment strike and didn't think it would sell for anything like it did. Adding the info on the hard planchets for '83-P Nickels made the price take off. I just want to know why!

*scuba... all my sales are in normal font now. I really do thank you for letting me know that it was obnoxious. I don't want to look like an idiot (even if I am.)

This coin still has mint luster, correct? I can only assume that "extra hard planchets" refers to planchets that were not annealed before striking. Annealing is the process of heating planchets in a controlled manner and then cooling them for the purposes of softening the metal which allows for a better strike. I am aware of it as an error but I have never encountered one. From Alan Herbert's Official Price Guide to Mint Errors 7th Ed-

A blank or planchet that isn't annealed will retain its hardness, and would be difficult to strike. Th effect is nearly impossible to detect or authenticate on an unstruck planchet. Cause may be due to equipment failure or operator error.
RARITY LEVEL: UNKNOWN
VALUES: ---

So that still leaves me completely clueless on value but apparently two people thought it was worth about $45. My take on it is you got a nice price for a fairly obscure but undramatic error.

I think I'll still try to educate the buyer as to what the coin is, what was happening when it was minted and adding interesting facts, but no more large font and bright colors. I don't know if buyers even look at anything other than the coin and price in most cases. So I'll do my research, try to get the descriptions correct and let the coins sell thenselves.

I have started using a Nikon program called "Camera Control Pro." It lets me see the photo instantly and focus beter than just shooting with the camera. You can set everything on the PC then shoot when you're set. This allows the camera to be rock steady as you click the "Shoot" button on the PC. It sends the image to the PC using a USB cable without loading and unloading the memory card. If the shot isn't what you want, you just delete it, adjust and shoot again. I've also been using a 3 second exposure and hand holding the flash to bring out the detail and luster I'm looking for.

I really like the results! (BTW... this photo was taken using a scanner.) I just can't get the shot I want with a scanner.

Well, I'll be brutally honest here. There are several things that make me hit the back button when I enter a listing.

  • "Reserve not met"

  • Big flashing or moving things. (Why people think putting huge animated images in auctions is a good idea really baffles me)

  • Any kind of automatic sound.

  • Huge fonts that make me feel like I'm being yelled at, all different color fonts or a hundred lines of unbroken text (no paragraphs) that are extremely hard to read.

  • Sellers too lazy to form complete adult sentences. U no what I mean, rite? Sure u do.

Now "Not responsible for uninsured items" doesn't make me hit the back button, but it does make me chuckle a little.

I thought the font was too big as well. I understand increasing font for easier reading, but there is bigger font, and then there is too big. And I believe this auction falls in the too big category.

All of the items I have listed have been fixed. Small fonts with just a little color. All my sales will be regular font from now on. NO MORE YELLING!
