I will say this. A lot of folks here scream fake on virtually every rare coin posted, even some that are slabbed. I have said it before, and I will say it again. Yes, you need to be careful, but the be afraid RUN AWAY!! attitude gets old sometimes.

I thought that coin was good the moment I looked at it 5 minutes ago. I didnt catch it first time around.

Nice pick up dude.

Congratulations on the vindication!

Now that you know he is the real deal, crack that baby open and get him into your Dansco!

I agree put it in your Album. As to the locaion of the Mint Mark, so many forget they were added manually back in those days. And if a Mint worker was a normal person, just might have had a few drinks during lunch so that could make the Mint Mark appear almost anywhere on the coin.

I know you would not, but he bought this one raw for his Dansco 8100 album.

If he does not crack this one, then he would have to find another raw one for it.

Of course, he will post the new one here for opinions and given the history of this thread, he will end up sending that one in as well.

The cycle will never end!

I was one of those who didn't chime in because I wasn't sure. Nice to see such a great resolution!

That is where I am on this coin .. one minute I think crack it open ... and the next leave it in the slab

This coin has much better eye appeal in hand than it does in the pictures and it would look ok in my dansco.
But I might want a little better grade, and this coin would sell better in the slab if I go that way.

Then I look at my dansco and only have two empty holes this 1914 D and the 1922 no D. (not counting the 09 S vdb that I am leaving in the slab). It sure would be nice to have those holes filled ...

Then I am back to what jbuck said .. if I buy a raw VF/XF .. and post here .. might end up sending it in also ..

I know there are a lot of fake 1914 D's out there .. and other coins .. but I still believe there are more real ones then fake ones ... this having to slab key coins is getting crazy

LOL...well...I feel all 14-D's belong in slabs. There's just far too many fakes out there.

Keep it in the slab. Just because you call it a coin collection doesn't mean that it has to all be in one book. I think you got a decent grade on that coin and a great deal to boot. No sense in cracking that thing out to scratch the OCD. What if you decide to upgrade later and get it regraded at a VG-8 or 10 instead? Not worth the risk.

I just placed a piece of paper in the slot for my 32D quarter in my Dansco. Not as nice as the coin, but once I got it slabbed, no way do I want to crack it. I would leave it in the slab and use some kind of marker.

I have a 1914-D that appears to be identical to the one in question with the mint make close to the jacket.
