What is the color designation? That makes a HUGE difference. $1200-$3000 If you can get one for under $1000, you're doing well.

So you guys think I'd be doing ok paying $500 then or is that too high? I have no idea what current prices are as I cannot find any recent sales for coins for sale. Seen a few VDBs but no plain 1909.

PCGS website: 1909 LWC plain with pr-65 grade is $2650. If you can get it with $500, you are doing great......

I'll let you guys know if/when I see it.........really concerned with stuff nowadays as there are fake holders as well as fake coins. It sounds too good to be true.

Check the serial number on the holder with PCGS to make sure its the right coin. But for 500 if its real...YES.

it's a ruse.....here's the response I got earlier today:

"Cool. So I was lookibg closely at the coin but it was hard to do so with the plastic casing. So I cut the coin out of the holder with a bandaw but accidentally scraped the edge of the coin with the saw. However, I took the coin to a jewerly shop and they polished the scrape and the whole coin. The coin now looks nicer than it did when inside the pastic holder. How do I get the coin inside a similar holder? $500 sounds good to me."

That's it, complete with the spelling errors.

Well...if what they say is true, the rest of the surviving problem-free 1909 proofs just became a little bit more valuable.

HAHAHAHA....yea, there's no way you're getting one of those for $500 in PCGS 65RD. The chances are probably less than hitting the lotto. LOL

I paid $2600 for my PCGS PR65RB (83 in this grade, 26 higher counting resubmittals)from Brian Wagner. I would have doubt (which it was a "ruse") it's a real Matte Proof but if it is the seller would be really hard up for some cash because a Red could fetch over $3500+ anywhere and on any forum!

Here's mine: The toning on Lincoln was caused by the paper they were wrapped in, other than that it would be a RED.
