The 1950-D is a TERRIFIC find! !!

That together with the 1914-D Lincoln Cent discovered recently by a cent roll searcher is enough to keep this semi burnt out roll searcher going!

What company wrapped those rolls and what area of the U.S. do you live? Those are some very nice finds for nickles. I get mostly the modern stuff here in N.C.

I get brinks and live in the southwest Ohio. I will post pictures when I get the time. I was very happy with the hull and will probably get another box tomorrow. I want to find a bank that has a free coin counter. Right now I break apart the plastic wrap and reroll them. I have used over 200+ nickel wrappers and 200+ half dollar wrappers. I always get my wrappers from banks

Great find with the 1950d. I have never found one of those. Always end up shelling out the then bucks to complete the set.

I did, however, find a 1958p today. Don't know why, but that has been a tough one, too.

bencrit - the 1958 Nickel only had a mintage of 17 million whereas 1958-D had a mintage of almost ten times as much...some 168 million

My son and I have been nickel roll searching for years, and of the "rare five", these are our finds:

1950D 0
1939D 3
1938S 0
1938D 3
1939S 2

I have very bad news. Upon a closer look I have determined that the 1950D is a forgery. It is a 1959D that had the stem of the 9 smashed.

The bottom is the 'supposed' 1950D and the top is a regular 1950P. Look at the difference in the '0'.

You can see marks where the stem of the 9 used to be

'Supposed' 1950D

I am sad to say that I expect it to be a forgery. Any other opinions?

Bummer with the 50d. It is truely a rare roll find but I won't give up on it. Here are my key/semi-key finds:

1950D 0
1939D 3
1938S 5
1938D 8
1939S 4

340,000 searched means I find a semi-key every 8.5 boxes...not bad. Hopefully all of our next boxes contains a real 50d!

That is truly way to bad. A buddy of mine got ripped off at a coin show like that.

Lucky indeed. Good catch on your part, though. For only five cents it is a very economical lesson.
