Quote: Maybe that guy that got 30 sets is an alt account for the seller.... trying to use it as bait? otherwise who the heck would spend 9 grand on this?!?! Because he thinks he's getting 3000 coins, worth $95,000, for $9000. The sale is still on as of 5:50 AM Central time. It's up to 61 with 39 lots left. Poor user O***O has bought HALF of the number sold. I wish we could see the real name of this user. We could tell them it's a scam. I can't think of a reason for someone to keep buying a few lots at a time, unless they keep talking to family and friends to get more money. Just think about how that could turn out. "Gee, sorry Grandma... it was just a scam! We'll find a nice box for the whole family to live in." I'm not worried that these people are going to get a bunch of fakes. I sure that the seller, if they pull it off, will take the money and run. They even use photos from a real sale that was on ebay over a month ago. If they have 10,000 fake Peace dollars, why would they use a real photo of only 100 coins? A shot with 10,000 SILVER DOLLARS would look great! ebay will stop them, it's just that it's the weekend and they haven't got to it yet. Come on eBayers! You can't get something that everyone wants and only pay one tenth the true value! *sigh*

Unfortunately the only way the coin community wins is if people educate themselves a bit and take the greed factor out. I am all for the the hobby sustaining itself through profits and individuals getting that awesome deal, but really, something too good to be true usually is.
(Now I am off to optimistically open my publishers clearing house mail...)

If people are that clueless I say let them buy it. Who has thousands of silver dollars just laying around?

If they were buying one or two, OK. But the guy was was buying in batches seems like he was buying for others - that just doesn't sit well with me. I have elderly relatives who are targets for scams like that. Once, my 90 year old grandmother gave her SSN to the "bank" over the phone. Luckily she thought about it, called me and I was able to work with the bank to quickly change everything so her account could not be accessed and a watch was put on her credit info. Why did she call me? Not because she gave out her SSN (!) but because she thought the cash back credit card offer sounded a little too good to be true.
Hopefully the buyer will investigate and figure out why it was cancelled

I remember before "everyone" had the internet it was scams over the phone praying on the elderly that are so trusting because when they were young everyone had respect for others and thought about others instead of just what they can get for themselves. There were some people like this back then but but the majority of people were willing to help others instead of looking out for #1 all the time

This guy lifted the auction style and pictures from a legitimate seller. He has been reported many times and has been kicked off of ebay many times. He keeps coming back with a new ID and runs the same scam auction over and over and over. Scams thirty to forty buyers, gets kicked off, comes back and does it again.

Earlier in the thread someone mentioned that he was shipping these from hong kong....is this always the location listed for him regardless of the ID name? Also does his new ID name start back at zero sales or is he using an already established ID with a significant number of prior sales/feedback?

No the feedback doesn't always start at zero. We suspect they are also hijacking accounts.
